Work Schedule: 8 Hr (8:00:00 AM - 5:00:00 PM)

Summary:

The Admissions Counselor Outreach & Recruitment will be responsible for assuring the implementation and maintenance of the admissions and recruitment strategic plans specific to the recruitment of underrepresented in medicine applicants. This goal is accomplished by utilizing benchmarks, data analysis, outcomes, and research to evaluate and monitor the overall effectiveness of the strategic plan and specific program. The outreach admission counselor will communicate with and counsel prospective applicants, respond to admissions inquiry emails, and develop and maintain relationships with those applicants moving forward. The individual will build, develop, and maintain relationships with Health Professions Advisors at colleges and universities locally and nationally. Required Job Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree.

• One to two years of experience in higher education admissions and recruitment

• Ability to work collaboratively and support diversity of prospective students, community constituents, staff, faculty, and other parties connected to this position.

• Ability to work independently and make decisions based on fundamental knowledge, experience, and expertise.

• Detailed oriented, highly organized with an ability to manage multiple tasks and interact with others in a professional and cordial manner.

• Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills; strong public speaking skills and ability to engage large and small groups in a variety of settings.

• Proven ability to set and maintain a standard for a high volume of productivity in a fast-paced environment.

• Maintains confidentiality for applicants, students and/or graduates (alumni).

• Must be able to build and maintain a positive team environment and culture.

• Requires regular travel throughout the country, including overnight stays and occasional weekends. Expenses for travel is reimbursed.

• Ability to become proficient with Admissions software and databases.

• Must demonstrate working knowledge of word processing, data analysis and spreadsheet programs. Experience with Windows, Microsoft Office, Excel, and Access (or other database systems).

• Must be able to lift a minimum of 10-15 pounds of weight (e.g., recruitment materials, table, etc.) that may be required at career fairs, or other recruitment related events.

Responsibilities:

Outreach Recruitment (75%)

• Utilizing a holistic review process, reviews AMCAS and Rush Medical College Secondary applications and Letters of Reference in order to determine eligibility for interview.

• Initiate correspondence, maintain telephone/texting and electronic contact, and provide consistent follow up with prospective applicants who are underrepresented in medicine.

• Supports the Dean and Director of Admissions and Recruitment in all efforts to establish affiliation programs across the country for the purpose of increasing the pool of available candidates who are underrepresented in medicine, who apply and matriculate at Rush Medical College (RMC).

• Assists the Assistant Director, Director and Dean of Admissions and Recruitment to establish and/or maintain relationships with historically Black and Hispanic/Latino serving colleges/universities and travel to these campuses as appropriate.

• Works directly with established and any newly established Pathway Programs at Rush Medical College for the purpose of improving the recruitment and matriculation of underrepresented in medicine students at RMC.

• Establishes and maintains a local and national network of RMC alumni who will participate and assist the College in its recruitment efforts, particularly of all underrepresented students.

• Initiate, develop and maintain relationships with Health Professions Advisors at colleges and universities throughout the country.

• Supports and works directly with RMC affinity groups (LMSA, SMNA, Together We Thrive, DACA) as needed, related to their respective goals involving the outreach and recruitment of prospective applicants who are underrepresented in medicine.

• Initiate, develop and maintain relationships with minority associations of pre-medical students (MAPS) chapters locally and nationally, as relevant.

• Initiate, develop and maintain relationships with National Association of Minority Medical Educators (NAMME) and participate in associated recruitment fairs/activities, as relevant.

• Conducts presentations and represents the Medical College at information sessions, medical school fairs, workshops, seminars, panels, and other recruitment events based on RMC priorities.

• Travels to represent RMC at regional and national recruiting fairs, including SNMA and LMSA, and conducts select campus presentations.

• Maintains an ongoing review of travel activities related to admissions and recruitment.

Counseling/Advising (20%)

• Accurately communicates both internally and externally, medical college admission requirements and application process, providing guidance and assistance to applicants in recommending courses and conducting evaluations of applicant’s completed coursework from other institutions, including post baccalaureate and/or graduate coursework.

• Develop and maintain productive working relationships with key educational stakeholders and provide admissions advising for prospective students, including application review.

• Counsel/advise prospective applicants, including alumni connections, and unsuccessful applicants on application improvement strategies.

• Provide informational materials and counseling services for prospective applicants.

• Educate stakeholders about the admissions process.

Administration (5%)

• Run regular recruitment reports and present data on the recruitment of underrepresented applicants as appropriate.

• Assists with the diversity matriculation scholarships by communicating with applicants upon selection and tracking results of offers.

• Assists with the execution of on-campus/virtual recruitment events.

• Handles special projects and/or events as assigned by the Assistant Dean and/or Director or Assistant Director of Admissions and Recruitment.
