Description We are inviting applications for the role of an Attorney/Lawyer based in Chicago, Illinois. The job function primarily involves assessing individuals' eligibility for immigration benefits and providing legal oversight at workshops, among other responsibilities. This role offers a short-term contract employment opportunity in the legal industry.

Responsibilities:

• Evaluate individuals' eligibility for immigration benefits during consultations

• Assist in filling out appropriate applications such as family petitions, consular processing, adjustment of status, U-visa, VAWA, asylum, and removal defense cases

• Explain relevant policies and procedures to individuals

• Provide legal supervision at workshops when applicable

• Train volunteers, both legal and non-legal, to complete applications when necessary

• Conduct factual and legal research and keep abreast with developments in immigration law and procedure

• Represent clients before USCIS and EOIR

• Conduct strategic community outreach to promote awareness about programs

• Deliver community presentations on immigration topics such as "Know Your Rights"

• Develop relationships with organizing partners and explore collaborative opportunities with potential allies

• Provide other legal services and support as the need arises. Requirements • Possess a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school

• Admitted to practice law in the state

• Demonstrable experience in the practice of Immigration Law

• Proven ability to handle large and complex caseloads effectively

• Excellent research, analytical, and communication skills

• Strong negotiation and advocacy skills

• Proficient in using legal research software and other related software

• Ability to maintain high levels of confidentiality

• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with clients, colleagues, court officials, and others

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently

• Exemplary ethical standards and professional integrity

• Demonstrable commitment to continuing education and staying updated with the latest changes in immigration law.
