Job Description

For our Mainframe Principal Engineer, we are seeking a candidate with a broad and deep knowledge of the mainframe platform to support our core systems. In this executive level individual contributor role, you’ll be expected to have knowledge across all disciplines in the mainframe space including network, database & transaction services as well as operating systems. Capacity Planning is a large component of the role, and you’ll need to know how all aspects function and interact with each other to be successful. You will be expected to be a liaison and talk mainframe strategy and enterprise architecture with senior technology leaders.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience

• Eight or more years of relevant experience

Preferred Skills/Experience

• Broad understanding of capacity planning and the architecture of mainframe

• zOS knowledge: structures and logic, parallel sysplex, IMS & DB2 data sharing, workload management, workload scheduling (JES2); mainframe access management, encryption & compression

• Network knowledge: TCP/IP configurations & security, SNA networking, cross-system communications, sysplex distributor, WAN configurations.

• CICS/MQ knowledge: CICS transaction processing, security, structures & logic as well as MQ queue and channel setup, structures, and logic.

• Database knowlege: Mainframe DB2 and IMS; structures, logic, buffer pool usage & tuning

• Storage knowledge: Mainframe channel architecture, CKD storage constructs, I/O performance characteristics, HCD and IOCP definitions, systems managed storage routines & classes (SMS), storage replication & resiliency, virtual tape infrastructure.

• Thorough understanding of several team's domains and how they contribute to the overall business strategy and alignment to the technical strategy.

• Possesses expertise in performance, scalability, enterprise system architecture, and engineering best practices in an agile environment.

• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

• Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership skills

• Proven collaboration and influencing skills.

Location Expectations

The role offers a hybrid/flexible schedule, which means there's an in-office expectation of 3 or more days per week and the flexibility to work outside the office location for the other days.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $145,180.00 - $170,800.00 - $187,880.00
