Job ID 12528 Location Case Main Campus Full/Part Time Full-Time Regular/Temporary Regular Job Description POSITION OBJECTIVE The Assistant Director of Residence Life serves as the facilitator of the residential experience (termed the Independent Living Experience) for upperclass students living in apartment facilities at Case Western Reserve University managed by third-party property groups. Supervising 3 to 4 Graduate Resident Directors (GRD) and 1 to 2 Summer Interns, the assistant director supports 380 to 500 academic year upperclass students and 250 to 350 students during the summer experience. As a member of the Office of Residence Life, the assistant director supports a program of over 4,300 students in over 42 buildings with an operating budget of approximately $2.2 million by creating, implementing, maintaining, and providing training on all Residence Life policies and procedures. Additionally, the assistant director serves on the senior staff on-call rotation. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Provide strategic leadership and direction to a community of approximately 380 to 500 upperclass students living in third-party managed apartment facilities. Act as an indirect contact for upperclass students, monitoring and supporting their holistic academic, social, and personal development throughout their residential experience. During the summer session, guide summer interns in providing leadership and direction to a community of approximately 250 to 350 students in the summer experience. Ensure summer staff have direct contact with summer students, monitoring and supporting their holistic academic, social, and personal development throughout their residential summer experience. (15%) Recruit, select, train, supervise, and develop 3 to 4 Graduate Residential Directors (GRD) and 1 to 2 summer interns. Indirectly recruit, select, train, supervise, and develop approximately 7 to 10 summer Resident Assistants. Facilitate development of Intern and GRD confidence in their ability to be successful by meeting on a regular basis, sharing information and guiding them to make decisions on how objectives will be achieved and issues resolved in their assigned areas of responsibilities. Provide GRDs and Interns with clear expectations regarding organizational values and desired results. Establish ongoing clear and honest performance feedback. Collaboratively identify professional and self-development plans. Complete timely staff performance evaluations each semester. (15%) Assume leadership responsibility for our continuous, 24/7 departmental on-call system and departmental policy and procedure processes. Oversee, maintain, and review the department's various policies and procedures systems on a consistent basis. This includes annual updates to the Residence Life manual, on-call management guides, and Campus Groups resources. Coordinate yearly transition reports, on-call system logistics, and organize the department's shared and Google drives. (15%) Collaborate with the Office of University Housing, Facilities Services, and third-party entities to create environments that support resident development, ensure well-functioning residential facilities, and are responsive to resident concerns. Instruct and guide staff and residents in completing occupancy, room inventory, room change, work order, and facility emergency response procedures. (10%) Serve as a member of the department's leadership team.
