POSITION OBJECTIVE

Working under moderate supervision, perform research work in medical and related technical areas of biology, electrophysiology, and photobiomodulation (PBM). The lab is studying photobiomodulation (PBM) to treat various diseases and conditions (e.g., pain, spinal cord injury, etc.). This technique involves non-ionizing radiation in the visible to near-infrared spectrum being absorbed by the body¿s natural chromophores, triggering photophysical and photochemical reactions at various biological levels without thermal damage.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1.        Perform research work in medical and related technical areas involving the use of lab skills (e.g., pipetting) to investigate the mechanisms of photobiomodulation (PBM). Setup a workflow (e.g., all needed chemical solutions). For example, add drugs and or light to in vitro samples and monitor changes in electrophysiology. (45%)
  2.        Monitor changes in electrophysiology. Run analysis such as rectified area under the curve. (20%)
  3.        Record results and assuring quality signals are recorded. (10%)
  4.        Maintain test equipment utilized in experiments. Prepare mixtures and maintain chemical solutions. Keep the lab running. (15%)
