Ohio Means Jobs Cleveland Cuyahoga County is sourcing for a Youth Intervention Specialist. The Youth Intervention Specialist (YIS) provides 24-hr supervision/guidance to program participants while assisting in their daily activities. Assists in the implementation of the residents' Individual Service Plans and program objectives. The YIS maintains current/timely documentation on youth in the Next Step Youth Shelter and Next Step Independent Living program. Additionally, the Youth Intervention Specialist assists in the coordination and transportation of residents to activities as required. Essential Job Responsibilities • Provides on-site monitoring and supervision of the youth during assigned work hours, which may involve working varying shifts and sites • Conducts and documents checks of all cluster site apartments every two hours or more if needed • Conducts and documents external perimeter checks of cluster site apartments per shift to ensure the safety of the residents and staff • Documents observations to in progress notes and log any staff interactions with youth, families, social workers, providers and client-related contacts • Prepares well-written, detailed Critical Incident Reports on all unusual/illegal activities and police/EMS involvement. All Critical Incident Reports must be submitted within 24 hrs. of incident • Ensures that at curfew hour, all outside youth activity will cease and all youth are in their respective apartments or assigned dorm room with doors closed, and secure • Calls in AWOLs to probation officers and the Division of Children and Family Services hotline and document all call. • Assists with, implements and facilitates Life Skills instruction and other supportive services as directed • Reviews daily activity log/emails and follows through with the requests of the administrative/case management staff • Actively participates in quality improvement activities of the program/agency, staff meetings and trainings • Maintains professional boundaries while serving as a role model and life coach for resident. • Assists residents in achieving the goals and objectives of the ISP and assists the residents with life and social skills development on a daily basis • Manages all crisis situations by utilizing Handle with Care techniques and procedures to ensure a safe and stable environment • Responds competently/accurately to all crisis inquiries posed by the DCFS Hotline social workers Other Job Responsibilities • Assists youth with the preparation of their next day's activities (e.g., bus routes, proper attire, alarm clocks set, and/or wake-up calls) • Monitors, records and administers resident medication as required • Addresses in a timely fashion maintenance concern in all units with operations staff • Maintains the cleanliness of staff office and bathroom during each shift • Provides daily assistance to all resident with maintaining dorm room/apartment cleanliness • Maintains, each day when working at the Next Step Shelter, the cleanliness and orderliness of the following areas: kitchen, resident bathrooms, and linen/supply closet • Monitors all security cameras hourly to ensure the safety of residents and staff • Transports clients as required • Actively participates in quality improvement activities of the program/agency • Performs other duties as assigned *Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Good oral and written communication skills • Performs duties in a professional manner during a crisis and work with the local police/EMS if needed. • Able to lift 25 lbs. • Able to perform a physical restraint safely and effectively • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office applications and internet • Documented training and competency in
