Pikes Peak State College is located at the foot of Pikes Peak in Colorado Springs, Colorado. PPSC offers broad programs in transfer, occupational, and preparatory subjects emphasizing student and community needs. Colorado Springs is a great city to both work and live. Description of Job

Job Responsibilities: Your application must provide a detailed description of your relevant work experience in relation to the following duties: This full-time position provides general labor support to the Facilities Maintenance and Operations Department for Pikes Peak State College. Position involves physical work with a wide variety of general tasks. Specific duties include, loads and unloads furniture, equipment, and supplies; digs ditches and trenches; builds fences; and performs demolition work, minor, repetitive, and simple repairs maintenance on equipment or buildings. This position includes the operation of equipment and the use of tools. Coordinates, schedules, and performs room sets for events and miscellaneous college functions. Uses the work order system to track work. Assures room is clean and presentable prior to event to support positive image of the college. Works closely with event planner to confirm set up request, furniture availability, time, etc. and recommends modifications accordingly. Moves furniture and other objects based on work requests received and/or facility inspection findings (i.e., miscellaneous furniture placed in halls, benches moved to undesignated areas, etc.)

This position ensures cleanliness and safety of facility by performing general custodial tasks to include, but not limited to cleaning, disinfecting, sweeping, mopping, window washing, vacuuming, emptying trash & recycle bins, picking up trash and maintaining paper and hygiene products in restrooms through service calls and work orders received and required facility inspections.

This position assists other work units (grounds, structural and mechanical) by providing general labor tasks to include but not limited to; painting, wall taping/texturing, mounting wall fixtures, resetting breakers, replacing light bulbs/fixtures, plumbing repairs, etc. Position performs seasonal snow and ice removal with shift variation and will be required as needed. Position works on all PPSC owned and leased properties and will perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

No specific education or experience required. Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn are required. This position requires physical work involving general tasks including hauling, lifting, moving and digging.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: This position operates a motorized cart and drives a State Fleet vehicle, therefore, applicants must possess and maintain a current Driver’s License. This position is listed as a critical position: 1-38.3. Critical Positions: Positions departments determine as critical to the operations. Employees in critical positions can be FLSA exempt or nonexempt and can be expected work and/or remain at their worksite in delayed start, early release, or closure situations. This position must be willing and able to handle the use, handling, or exposure to hazardous materials paints, solvents, other chemicals.

This position requires the individual to exert or lift in excess of 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Position also requires constant or frequent climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling and reaching. Applicants must be willing and able to perform this level of physical exertion in order to perform the essential functions of this position. Position could be exposed to chemicals or conditions deemed hazardous.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Must submit to and successfully pass a post offer pre-employment background check and a current motor vehicle driving record as a condition of hire. Felony convictions or conviction of crimes of moral turpitude or convictions of misdemeanors related to job duties may disqualify you from consideration for this position. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Prior work experience in general labor, maintenance and custodial experience. Knowledge and ability to use a personal computer. Effective communication skills; strong customer service and interpersonal skills, and strong time management skills preferred. Prior experience operating a snow plow. General knowledge in operating a variety of equipment and tools. Individuals with a minimum of a high school degree or GED. Prior experience with room set-ups and tear-downs. Experience in a custodial or comparable position performing tasks which included measuring cleaning solvents accurately. Complete daily inspection and perform general maintenance of tools and equipment (i.e., vacuums, mops, extractors, etc.) Previous experience with custodial equipment and supplies is preferred. Previous grounds experience. Previous experience painting, replacing light bulbs/fixtures, plumbing repairs, mounting wall fixtures, etc.
