Job Title: Switchboard Operator - Receptionist Department: Source America Reports To: Rachel Romano-Hughes Location: Colorado Springs Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center (3141 Centennial Boulevard, Colorado Springs, CO, 80907 Hours: 8:00am - 4:30pm Monday-Friday FLSA Status: Temp to Hire 3-month period with possibility of permanent job offer. Salary: $16.20/hr + 4.41 H&W Schedule: 40 hours, 8am-4:30pm Monday-Friday (off Sat, Sun, Mon) Opportunities for extra hours available. Updated: 3/6/2023 SUMMARY The Switchboard Operator answer incoming phone calls and direct the calls to the appropriate person or department. The individual must be capable of answering phones in a courteous and patient manner, as well as provide effective telephone switchboard and other departmental services. Operators work independently in a small office like a call center environment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Receive and route calls to correct departments/services Must learn the internal intranet systems and VA phone protocols Follows all safety rules and regulations Route emergency calls appropriately based on the Standard Operation Procedure manual Performs all job tasks listed in Statement of Work Available to backfill hours if colleagues are sick, on vacation or out based on other emergencies Ability to communicate and work cooperatively with other Switchboard operators, Switchboard supervisor, and Hospital staff Additional Operator duties as assigned SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position has no supervisory responsibilities OR explain the supervisory requirement here Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS Excellent Microsoft Office Skills, especially Excel, Outlook, and Word. Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), grammar, and reasoning skills Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information without breach

Related experience required Provide excellent customer service and model effective communication skills when handling callers MUST pass the VA security clearance and background check Considerable dependability & independence working alone during shift EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's Degree required along with a minimum of five years direct and progressive experience required. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
