Role: Senior Operations Manager

Reports to: Director of Operations

Location: DePuy Synthes, Cork, Ireland

Job purpose:

The purpose of this role is to:

  • Connect – with leadership teams across the site and the various supply chain networks within Joints

  • Shape – the strategic direction and measurement of the Operations function with a full end to end view of the supply chain in mind.

  • Lead – the Value Stream and Business Unit teams through the different improvements and changes in line with best-in-class lean principles and practices

  • Deliver – successful business KPI performance in keeping with our business priorities of EHS, Quality Service and Cost

Main duties & responsibilities:

Develop and implement the Operational strategic imperatives in-line with the Joints & Site strategic objectives.

Lead and develop Operations staff in a manner that will facilitate employee development, identifying training needs, stretch assignments and opportunities for development.

Ensure the Operations Function and Business Unit teams conform to Corporate, Franchise, Statutory, Legislative and Regulatory requirements for cGMP, HSE and Quality.

Ensure responsibilities under the Quality System as defined in the Quality Manual are attained and maintained by Operations employees

Ensure all HSE requirements are fulfilled in accordance with the responsibilities defined in the Company Safety Statement and Environmental policy and actively promote Health & Safety ensuring Health & Safety is a goal for all direct / indirect reports.

Responsible for creating a culture of development and inclusion, to retain talent and develop a robust succession plan throughout the organization.

Build and maintain an environment of innovative continuous improvement, focusing on quality, cost reduction, process development and supply.

Develop and lead a world-class Operations Function, in-line with LEAN manufacturing principles.

Ensure the optimisation of resources, processes, and equipment within manufacturing in conjunction with relevant support functions.

Ensure regular communication of business performance/issues to all relevant employees.

Manage expenses and direct labour costs to budget.

Lead the business transformation programme ensuring it is embraced and supported

Work as a strategic partner with all other departments to develop DePuy Ireland as a Best-in-Class orthopaedics plant and a flagship company within Johnson & Johnson.

Provide leadership within the Business Unit, to deliver superior business results in-line with objectives.

Ensure there is close collaboration between associate’s in engineering, Production, Quality Assurance, EHS, Planning, Regulatory, Materials, Finance, etc.

Actively participate in / lead Campus Ireland initiatives.

All employees are responsible for minimizing both the Environmental and Health & Safety effects of the work that they perform.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL:

  • Engineering, Production/Engineering Management or other technical degree or equivalent.

  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience

DESIRABLE:

  • Master’s in business administration/production/engineering management

  • Previous experience within the Healthcare/Medical Devices Sector

  • Knowledge of capacity planning, financial competence and a basic understanding of lean manufacturing technologies preferred.

  • Basic project management skills preferred.

  • Formal lean training and/or certification preferred.

  • Formal 6-sigma/process excellence training and/or certification preferred.
