Job Summary

Battelle is currently seeking a Director of Community Enablement . This hybrid position is based in Narragansett, Rhode Island , with flexibility to work from our Crystal City Office. The position reports to the Business Line Manager.

The Director of Community Enablement will be part of the Scientific Ocean Drilling Coordination Office (SODCO) team that is responsible for gathering community input, developing strategy for community engagement and executing strategy. The Director of Community Enablement will direct key functional areas including community relations, communications, website development, meeting planning. You will serve as an essential liaison between community members and stakeholders, ensuring that the community perspective is reflected in decisions made by SODCO.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, Develop and execute innovative community enablement strategies that effectively communicate SODCO’s mission, research activities, and achievements to a broad audience.

  • Develop programs that support the community in building research collaborations

  • Coordinate and participate in workshops to support the community in developing science and innovation priorities

  • Coordinate travel to support community engagement activities

  • Oversee mechanisms for the science community to provide input to SODCO

  • Manage mechanisms for dissemination of information, opportunities, and results about scientific ocean drilling to the scientific community

  • Coordinate information exchange between U.S. scientific ocean drilling community and other potentially relevant groups (e.g., ICDP, International)

  • Identify and target key communities and stakeholders for engagement and collaboration.

  • Plan, coordinate, and manage various outreach programs, including workshops, seminars, public lectures, and community events.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community leaders, educational institutions, non-profits, and other relevant organizations.

  • Organize and oversee community events, ensuring they are effective, well-attended, and within budget.

  • Coordinate logistics, manage event schedules, and handle all aspects of event management from planning to execution.

  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of community enablement programs through feedback surveys, attendance tracking, and other metrics.

  • Prepare comprehensive reports on community engagement activities and their impact, providing insights and recommendations for future initiatives.

  • Lead, manage, and develop a team of professionals, ensuring high performance and continuous professional growth.

  • Conduct regular performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and facilitate professional development opportunities for team members.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 5+ years of applicable experience, master’s degree with 3+ years of experience or PhD with 1+ years’ experience in any technical field.

  • Ability to successfully plan, organize, and conduct meetings, including taking notes on key discussion items, decision points, and goals.

  • Ability to proactively identify program opportunities and risks and suggest appropriate courses of action.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to be proactive and persistent, successfully motivating colleagues and engaging with community members.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and successful experience in organizing community events and fostering inclusivity with diverse backgrounds and perspectives toward a common cause.

  • Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written.

  • Ability to quickly adapt to a fast-paced environment and perform multiple tasks effectively.

  • Ability to work effectively within a senior management team and support leadership in execution of strategic goals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree with 5 to 10 years’ experience or PhD with 3+ years of experience.
