Ford Motor Company Diesel Powertrain Calibration Engineer in Dearborn, Michigan

Vehicle Powertrain Systems Engineering (VPSE) product development team is looking for qualified candidates to support the powertrain Calibration for Diesel applications. VPSE works in a team environment to help deliver production ready powertrain calibrations on time with efficiency, meet regulatory requirements, and achieve Best in Industry high quality. This position involves evaluating and assessing vehicle attributes, as well as conducting vehicle testing and development at remote locations. This role is located onsite in Dearborn, MI.

This Diesel Powertrain Calibration Engineer position involves evaluating, assessing, testing, & optimizing vehicle attributes.

  • Modify vehicle and powertrain calibrations to meet attributes including emissions, drivability, performance, diagnostics, fuel economy, and NVH. This can be on vehicles and/or in engine dynamometer test cells

  • Responsibilities could include specialization in Engine combustion setpoints, SCR Aftertreatment operation, DPF Regen Mode operation and temperature control, CAN communications, and diagnostics calibration meeting requirements based on robust statistical metrics

  • Perform data analysis and regress model calibrations with large data sets & communicate conclusions

  • Interface with software algorithm suppliers (internal and external) to evaluate new features prior to development process

  • Calibrate and sign-off features for future model year Diesel programs

  • Document progress and methods used to calibrate & validate features within assigned responsibility

  • Use models and simulation to reduce testing and optimize powertrain calibrations

  • Position may require travel to remote development locations (Arizona/Canada/Colorado/Florida) for vehicle testing – approximately 2 weeks per trip and 3 trips per year

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (BSME, BSEE, BSAE, BS Chemical Engineering, BSE Computer Science, BS Computer Engineering)

  • Strong problem-solving skills to drive resolution of sophisticated system issues

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent data analysis capabilities, including statistical knowledge

  • Team player who excels in a collaborative and cross-functional environment

  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks

  • Valid Driver’s license required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years experience of powertrain calibration with vehicle and/or dyno testing

  • Master of Science in Engineering; Electrical, Mechanical, or similar

  • Proficient with Matlab and Calibration Tools including ETAS and/or ATI

  • Understanding of Emission Regulatory requirements, including OBD

  • Demonstrated ability to create or invent solutions to new or changing requirements

  • Ability to read and understand powertrain control strategies (C-code & model-based)

  • CAE experience with modeling/simulation to calibrate and optimize engine control features

  • Comprehensive knowledge of internal combustion engines (especially diesels) and effective engine and vehicle test methods

This position is a range of salary grades SG6-SG8 .
