Job Summary:

At Caterpillar’s Decatur, IL facility, we manufacture and assemble Large Mining Trucks and Construction equipment. In this role as a Product Change Control Engineer, you will report to the Manager Supply Chain Planning and will be primarily responsible for coordinating introduction of new product and engineering changes and provides management with the tools to monitor the overall progress and effectiveness of product programs. As a member of the Supply Chain team, you will need to have a growth mindset, promote continuous improvement, and help build a defect-free culture. What you will do:

  • Perform MCS functions for the Product Change Control Team.

  • Determines most efficient and cost effective methods to manufacture parts and the information necessary for implementing product changes and coordination of effective dates.

  • Performs a variety of specific tasks assigned by the Product Change Control Supervisor over and above those of a releasing analyst.

  • Reviews and enters data into the various systems, and ensures the proper release of engineering information, exhausting of existing inventories, and coordination with NPI programs.

  • Follows progress of major engineering releases and changes to resolve difficulties.

  • Actively participate in New Product Programs, Product cost reduction and product improvement requests.

  • Reviews EDS information into MCS to create manufacturing bills of material.

  • Reviews MCS information into the EMCC system to establish affectivity and monitor progress.

  • Coordinates all involved activity to implement change.

• Resolves common engineering change effectivity problems as a team.

• Responds to unexpected Product Change Control requests with a sense of urgency and positive action.

• Provides direct service to internal or external customers.

Accuracy and Attention to Detail :

• Evaluates and contributes to upgrades to the resolution of grief on the releasing dashboard.

• Processes large quantities of detailed grief reports and resolves with a high level of accuracy.

• Productively balances speed and accuracy.

• Demonstrates expertise with BIQ methods for releasing process improvement.

Problem Solving :

• Ensures capture of lessons to be learned from a problem-solving effort.

• Organizes potential problem solvers and leads problem resolution efforts.

• Uses varying problem-solving approaches and techniques as appropriate.

• Contributes to standard practices for problem-solving approaches, tools, and processes.

• Develops successful resolutions to critical or wide-impact issues on the releasing screens.

Manufacturing Requirements Planning (MRP) :

• Describes basic concept of identifying materials and its descriptive data.

• Describes phase out methods and associated engineering change lifecycles.

• Identifies parameters and considerations used in making decisions about production effectivity.

• Describes the use of bills of materials, make buy decisions, and other documentation needed to provide supplies.
