Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Arcadia Fire Management Officer, the Assistant Fire Management Officer of Prevention and Regulation has great influence on the quality, image, and message delivered to the general public of Washington State. This position works closely with stakeholders and other agencies and plays a leadership role in fire suppression activities, fire prevention education, and forest fuels reduction. The majority of the duties will include coordinating and supervising fuels reduction projects, working with agency partners to coordinate fire prevention activities in the local communities, and fire suppression. This position will act in several different fireline roles depending on the need for the incident. A portion of this position's duties will be in an office setting reviewing burn permits, investigation reports, and planning for current and future fuels reduction projects or prevention activities. This position will supervise two permanent employees year round and up to 20 during winter fuels project months. Other duties will include but are not limited to being a lead and/or unit instructor for NWCG fire courses for wildland fire training, and leading and participating in wildland fire prevention activities. The Arcadia District is a fast-paced and complex work environment that requires an individual who will work within the team's goals and dynamics to be successful. This position works closely with three other Assistant Fire Management Officers in the District to accomplish the goals of the District, Region, and Department.

*Required Qualifications: *

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience with: 
    • Prevention Messaging, Fire Fuels Reduction, Smoke Management, Regulatory Education and Enforcement.
    • Technical writing, communication, and public speaking.
    • Incident Command System.
    • Forest fire prevention and suppression techniques.
  • Supervisory Experience.
  • NWCG Qualifications:
    • 1 NWCG Single Resource Boss qualifications (Engine Boss, Crew Boss, Felling Boss, Heavy Equipment Boss, or Helicopter Manager)
    • NWCG Incident Commander Type 4
    • NWCG Wildland Fire Investigator with experience in Cause and Origin Determination, including investigative writing.
  • Must annually pass the work capacity test at the arduous level.
  • Experience in computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, mapping, and Global Positioning technology.
