Hub International Associate Actuary in Denver, Colorado
About Specialty Program Group: Specialty Program Group (SPG) is the wholesale & MGA division of HUB International (5th Largest Global Broker). SPG acts in a holding company capacity acquiring best in class underwriting businesses to operate independently under discrete brands (portfolio companies).
Position Summary
SPG is looking to expand the organization’s actuarial capabilities. In this position you will have regular contact with peers in the company’s finance department, information technology staff, leadership of the company’s managing general agencies, and SPG leadership. The actuarial department within SPG was created in 2022, this position will be joining the department early in its development and will have the opportunity to put their stamp on the procedures and processes. The role will support business written through traditional agent/carrier relationships, with fronting carriers and backed by reinsurers, as well as alternative risk transfer mechanisms. A successful candidate will report to the company’s Vice President & Actuary
Key Responsibilities
Participate in providing requirements and implementing actuarially sound calculations in development of an underwriting dashboard being implemented across all underwriting operations
In conjunction with underwriting leadership, develop large account pricing models to be used by underwriters
Identify and analyze additional variables to be used in the underwriting and/or rating process
Provide an internal view of the underwriting performance of assigned books of business semi-annually
Present findings to key stakeholders including SPG management, MGA leadership, carriers, reinsurers, and brokers, as needed
Ensure impacts of business activities are effectively identified, measured, and monitored
Perform segmentation analyses, implement analytical tools, and provide requirements for analyzing the experience of various products classification systems, rating plans, and catastrophe exposures
Aggregate, synthesize, and analyze data from disparate sources drawing actionable conclusions
Work collaboratively with the finance department during the budgeting process and on ad-hoc analyses, as needed
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required - preferably in related field of study such as actuarial science, math/applied math, statistics/applied statistics, data science
Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS) designation
Five or more years of experience in a Property & Casualty actuarial role
Understanding of reinsurance treaties and structures
Advanced Microsoft Excel skill required
Knowledge of R, Python, and/or SQL Server preferred
Pragmatic problem solver who can apply actuarial concepts to multiple lines of business and varied data sources
Position Location
This role is hybrid working in either Chicago or Denver.
Disclosure required under applicable state or municipality regulations: The expected salary range for this position is $120,000 to $160,000 and will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate’s skills, experience and working location, as well as the specific position’s business line, scope and level.
