The Colorado Workforce Development Council (CWDC) is a Governor-appointed, public-private partnership with the purpose to advise, oversee, and integrate the work of the Colorado talent development network. The CWDC Office is the work unit that supports the Council. The CWDC’s vision is that every Colorado employer has access to a skilled workforce and every Coloradan has the opportunity for meaningful employment, resulting in individual and statewide economic prosperity. The CWDC’s mission is to enhance and sustain a skills-based talent development network that meets the needs of employers, workers, job seekers, and learners for today and tomorrow. CWDC Office staff provide strategic, administrative, technical, and logistical support to the Colorado Workforce Development Council (CWDC) and its members, its sub-committees, and its task groups. The CWDC office staff administer and/or collaborate on various federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) and statewide workforce system programs, grants, and initiatives, with a focus on skills-focused work and sector strategies, career pathways, and expanding access. The unit represents and makes recommendations to the Governor on issues related to WIOA and other workforce issues. The unit facilitates collaboration among state agencies and partners to ensure effective and efficient leveraging of resources and to help reduce redundancy, including managing the support needed to ensure the success of this collaboration of partners and agencies. The CWDC work unit carries out the recommendations and work plans mandated by the CWDC members according to the rules and regulations of the Colorado Department of Labor & Employment (CDLE).

The Communications Strategist will be a key staff person for CWDC on the development and execution of external and internal communications based on requests from supervisor and colleagues. The role will develop and recommend strategic communication priorities for diverse stakeholders and audiences. A member of the Communications and Collaboration team, this role reports to the CWDC assistant director - communications and collaboration.

The Communications Strategist will be the product owner for CWDC on all websites, ensuring quality, timely, and accessible content on the site and also recommending and developing strategic priorities in the maintenance and sustainability of websites for the CWDC. This will include developing strategy and architecture, making updates, and collaborating with colleagues.

This role will determine the strategic direction of CWDC’s social media channels to best engage audiences and execute day-to-day management of those channels.

The Communications Strategist will be the product owner for the digital marketing platform and the contact management strategy lead, ensuring messages go out to intended audiences, managing the flow of information, developing templates and guidance, building, editing, and launching eblasts, and determining when additional functionality may be required of the digital marketing platform.

This position, along with other communications team members, will support communications requests from the broader CWDC team related to their work. Responsibilities will fluctuate depending on the needs of the team but will likely include work such as drafting and editing content, developing communications plans, overhauling a section of a website or building a new landing page, building eblasts, reviewing a PDF for accessibility, designing flyers, and developing visualizations to represent data or concepts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience Only:

Six (6) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position. Working experience in one or more of the following; communications, marketing, and/or public relations environment

OR

Education and Experience:

A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to six (6) years

Required Competencies:

  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills

  • Experience editing and/or managing a website

  • Experience with social media

  • Experience drafting and building professional emails

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to work independently and as a contributing member of a team

  • Ability to adapt to quickly-changing priority environment

  • Proficiency with Google Suite or Microsoft Office Suite

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with AP Style

  • Experience managing organizational pages/accounts for LinkedIn and Twitter/X

  • Adobe Creative Suite working knowledge, especially InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator

  • Experience making communications accessible

  • Experience with Salesforce Email Studio
