Job Posting Summary

This position provides support to the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences and Program Director of Social Work. The incumbent will be a member of the administrative pool of the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences with primary responsibility for administrative support to the Program Director of Social Work. The incumbent will provide coverage and assistance in other areas of the school’s operation and to the faculty advisor of the Catalyst program as necessary, as directed by the Dean and Associate Dean of SSBS.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Support the Social Work Program Director in administrative duties, including but not limited to writing and processing letters, educational materials, manuals and creating spreadsheets.

  • Provide needed information to faculty and students, answer questions, and refer students to appropriate resources.

  • Coordinate interviews for potential Social Work majors with the faculty in the department.

  • Maintain the program budget by tracking orders and expenditures monthly, ordering supplies as needed, and preparing and submitting requisitions for reimbursement for faculty travel.

  • Support the Social Work faculty with the accreditation process by helping in the preparing of reports, presentation and coordinating accreditor visits. Gather data for the process as requested.

  • Enter Social Work and other SSBS faculty members to their assigned courses in Banner, following all university processes and deadlines.

  • Respond to student, faculty, and staff requests and issues as appropriate.

  • Collect internship placement information and maintain a record of sites each semester in support of the Social Work Field Coordinator. Submit collected internship site information each semester to comply with the requirements of SARA (State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement).

  • Support in planning the Honors Society and Awards ceremony and other SSBS events as needed, including but not limited to preparing certificates for honor society recipients and informing award winners.

  • Assist in coordinating Social Work program events, including annual field work celebrations and guest speakers.

  • Collaborate with other SSBS staff members to support other academic programs offered within the school.

  • Meet with the Program Director of Social Work on an as-needed basis as determined by the Program Director.

  • Support the faculty director of the Catalyst program with needs such as course scheduling, student outreach, faculty assignments and event management.

  • Work at the Bronx campus at least one day per week during the Fall and Spring semesters in support of the Social Work program and Catalyst program.

  • Other duties are as assigned by the Associate Dean and Dean of SSBS.

Qualifications

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum of one to three years of experience in an administrative role in a professional office environment, preferably in an educational institution.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal, written and oral communication skills; problem solving, organizational and presentation skills.

  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point required.

  • Experience in Banner preferred.

  • Individual must be detailed oriented, have strong skills in customer service, and be able to be student centered at all times. In addition, ability to work both independently and in teams and work with confidential information.

    Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university preferred.

    Physical/Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to push, pull, move or lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Must be able to meet all general health requirements for the position as per university policies.

    Compensation offered will be commensurate with the educational background and work experience of the individual.

The Mercy University Retirement Plan is comprised of two components:

Deferred Compensation Plan

All eligible employees may contribute to the Deferred Compensation Plan on a pre-tax basis upon joining the University.

Defined Contribution Plan

Eligible employees are enrolled in the Defined Contribution Plan after two (2) years of full-time employment at Mercy University and receive a semi-monthly contribution from the College, based on age and salary. If an employee is under age 36, they will receive a contribution of 3.3% of their annual salary each pay period. If an employee is age 36 or older, they will receive a contribution of 9% of their annual salary each pay period.

If employed full-time for two (2) or more consecutive years by another institution(s) of higher education (college or university), without an intervening break in service within the last twelve (12) months prior to employment before joining Mercy, please submit a waiting period waiver form to Office of Human Resources.
