Team/Role Overview

The Operational Risk Management (ORM) Central Capabilities Execution Lead manages a team responsible for developing and delivering capabilities critical for supporting the execution of Banking and International ORM’s oversight responsibilities. Such capabilities include ORM process execution governance, operational risk profile development, management and regulatory updates and legal entity operational risk oversight. The Lead will also serve as the single point of contact on behalf of Banking and International ORM on policy and framework execution. This role is essential for enabling an efficient and coherent operating model across coverage teams for all international clusters, Banking and Client.

The successful candidate must be highly effective in leading a global team of professionals with varying levels of seasonality, providing support, coaching and supervision. One must also be highly analytical and able to apply advanced judgement within the operational risk context and be comfortable to operate under ambiguity. Extensive experience on practical applications of non-financial risk framework and policy is essential, and knowledge in legal entity risk management is referred. The incumbent is expected to lead the team to continuously develop, advance and deliver the capabilities on the team to help achieve the strategic priorities for Banking and International ORM.

What you’ll do

  • Manage the planning and execution of responsive challenge and assurance activities across product and cluster coverage.

  • Lead the team to develop and enhance risk analytics, provide contextualised risk insights, operating and control environment and emerging risk issues, as well as preparing executive and regulatory meeting materials.

  • Provide necessary structure, guidance and consistency in legal entity risk management globally to help address local regulatory expectations.

  • Serve as the conduit for the Banking and International ORM leadership team and a strong presence at various operational risk forums and councils on behalf of the coverage team.

  • Act as a trusted advisor to the leadership team and addresses high impact strategic issues across the spectrum of operational risk categories, businesses and geographies.

  • Coordinate across Banking and International coverage team to implement relevant policies and any changes to the policies.

  • Lead matters related to internal control, MCA, issue management within Banking and International ORM.

  • Partner across ORM, other Risk teams and 1st Line Of Defence to progress important initiatives, including relevant transformation efforts.

  • Build the team and develop team members.

What we’ll need from you

  • Experience in financial services and experience in at least one aspect of non-financial risk management including 2nd line and 1st line functions relevant to operational risk management.

  • People management experience.

  • Solid understanding of the risk and control framework is essential.

  • Ability to lead and direct a team of knowledge professionals.

  • Ability to lead by influence across multiple teams and organisational structures. problem solving capabilities; ability to take a complex problem and organise it in discrete pieces for solution.

  • Ability to size and prioritise large-scale initiatives.

  • Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication, problem structuring & causal thinking, sound business judgment, and demonstrated result orientation. Excellent analytical and quantitative capabilities. Creativity thinking; thinks outside the box and challenges conventional wisdom.

  • Collaborative work style; effectively interacts with partners across organisational boundaries/hierarchies.

  • Displays a leadership presence; commands respect and will earn trust of senior leaders. Multi-tasks productively and reliably, while managing conflicting priorities.

  • Bachelor’s/University degree, Master’s degree preferred and managerial experience.
