The Director of Pharmacy Value Analysis is accountable to deliver savings, solutions, and high-end user satisfaction on >$1B pharmaceutical products and services procured at Care Delivery Organizations (CDOs). This is achieved through leading key partnerships between Optum Health Care Delivery Organizations and Optum Rx, with clinical, operations and supply chain teams. In addition to leveraging value analysis, best practices, and non-acute supply chain solutions.  The person in this role is a content expert in the pharmaceutical category for value analysis of supplies and services, suppliers, solutions, and industry best practices serving non-acute healthcare.

This is a high visibility role where influencing key stakeholders will be critical to success. The successful candidate must be passionate about customer service and a service first culture, driving value and performance improvements related to Optum Health’s Pharmacy category in cost and service. The ideal candidate is an experienced leader in pharmaceutical value analysis with keen knowledge of all value drivers with group purchasing organizations, distributers, and manufacturers.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Understands external market and industry trends with focus on supply availability

  • Has deep experience in vendor relationships and work collaboratively with partners

  • Displays strong speaking skills with ability to know the measures & share with operations, business, national leaders, market presidents and finance

  • Accountable to enterprise for supply chain Pharmacy performance, strategy, operating model and KPIs

  • Engage directly with manufacturers and distributers to drive contracting strategies

  • Enable savings, quality, and service improvement for Care Delivery Organizations through leading complex Value Analysis and spend optimization initiatives on pharmaceutical products and services

  • Drive supplier consolidation and standardized formularies resulting in improved cost, service, and quality

  • Deliver value by embedding with Care Delivery Organization Supply Chain and Pharmaceutical teams to deliver tailored solutions, capabilities, and support addressing their top operational objectives

  • Act as a content expert on behalf of OptumCare Supply Chain teams to ensure support from matrixed UHG and Optum teams deliver value with each interaction

  • Utilize clinical product category knowledge and critical thinking, reviews and assesses applicable financial, clinical, and operational data, as well as evidence-based literature to assist teams in evaluating new and existing supplies and technology

  • Provide insight into supply shortages and guidance for product substitutions

Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of procurement and/or supply chain experience

  • 4+ years of pharmaceutical focused supply chain functions

  • Spend managed exceeds $10M annually

  • Demonstrated successful participation in pharmaceutical RFPs and contracts

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Project Management skills

  • Knowledgeable in:

  • Contracting, Materials Management, Distribution, Inventory Management, Logistics, Vendor Management

  • EMR, ERP, Inventory Systems, and Dispensing software

  • Pharmaceutical and Pharmacy Technology

  • Ability to work independently

  • Ability to interpret analytics and take appropriate action

  • Demonstrated ability to build and manage a scaled supply chain operating model with industry-leading solutions and capabilities

  • Service oriented servant leader focused on exceeding customer expectations with the ability to influence all levels of Care Delivery and Supplier organizations

  • Bias towards action and results with the ability to resolve conflicts and remove barriers

  • Excellent communicator verbal and written

  • Demonstrated ability to create value for customers in the form of savings, efficiency, and quality improvement

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, or Washington Residents Only : The salary range for this role is $122,100 to $234,700 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
