Hackensack Meridian Health Manager, Gift Planning Program in Edison, New Jersey

Reporting directly to the Vice President of Gift Planning, the Manager, Gift Planning Program will be responsible for the management and operations for all estate gifts, life income gifts and all complex gift transactions, as well as other key operational functions for the Office of Gift Planning.

This is a hybrid position based out of Edison, NJ.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Manager, Gift Planning Program at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Oversee portfolio of pending estates, working with executors and estate attorneys to ensure their timely distribution, and when needed, consulting with the finance team and legal counsel.

  • Conduct all matters, documentation, and processing of gifts relating to the handling of probate estate administration, designations on retirement accounts and insurance policies.

  • Responsible for the calculation and document preparation for all life-income gift arrangements (gift annuities, remainder trusts, and lead trusts).

  • Assist with development of content for educational training of foundation staff, grateful patients, team and board members in the area of estate, trusts, gift planning, and blended gifts.

  • Communicate by and between Hackensack Meridian Health Foundation (HMHF) with its partnering financial institutions and relevant HMHF offices such as Finance and Legal Counsel.

  • Assist on all processes for HMHF with all executors, trustees, and other fiduciaries of estates.

  • Manage the administration, monitoring and tracking of all active and deferred planned gifts.

  • Partner with Legal and Finance on distribution of estate matters.

  • Help to manage the Caring for the Future Society (our network-wide legacy society) through unique cultivation opportunities and outreach efforts

  • Planning and coordination of Gift Planning cultivation/stewardship events by campus (or regionally as appropriate).

  • Developing and executing a robust and proactive fundraising strategy to increase planned giving through in person and virtual engagements with a dedicated portfolio of donors, potential members of the Caring for the Future Society and professional advisors.

  • Assist with creative outreach to donors with current or potential unique gifts, such as non-cash assets.

  • Oversee the legacy email inbox to ensure all inquiries are responded to in a timely manner.

  • Maintain subject matter expertise by keeping current in understanding of tax-advantaged gifts, such as gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts, IRA qualified charitable distributions, etc, as well as state and federal regulations pertaining of planned gift vehicles.

  • Demonstrates perseverance while adhering to the highest ethical standards, demonstrating an optimistic, positive and professional attitude in all interactions.

  • Work on or manage other projects as assigned by the Vice President of Gift Planning.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience handling trust and estates, preferably in the Development office of a non-profit.

  • Positive attitude, true professional and team player who demonstrates the ability to work in a collaborative way with various departments.

  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Commitment to building a strong culture of philanthropy with a diplomatic approach.

  • Ability to navigate initial gift planning donor inquiries.

  • Knowledge of charitable gift annuities (CGA) and a comfort level speaking with donors regarding CGAs and other complex planned gift vehicles.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of databases and spreadsheets.

  • Experience working with other development teams to maximize performance.

  • High level of energy, enthusiasm and dedication to the mission of Hackensack Meridian Health.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Ability to work successfully in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple assignments and priorities.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Three (3) years of experience working in the trusts and estates area in a nonprofit or financial institution with familiarity in charitable gift planning.

  • Familiarity and comfort level working with a donor database system, preferably Raiser's Edge.
