Indian Health Service Lead Medical Support Assistant (OA-PRC) in Elko, Nevada

Summary This position is located at the Elko Service Unit in Elko, Nevada. Incumbent provides registration and eligibility services to patients to obtain and process demographic and insurance information for alternate resources, Purchased Referred Care and private/commercial insurance. Serves as first line work leader for Medical Support Assistants and staff. Serves as the Alternate Resource Benefits Coordinator, assuring the identification of patients who are eligible for alternate resources. Responsibilities Serves as first line work leader for three (3) MSAs GS-0679-05/6/7 in the PRC section. Assigns work and explains work requirements, methods and procedures as needed. Distribute and balance the workload among employees in accordance with established work flow or job specialization, assure timely accomplishment of the assigned workload. Provides leadership to other MSAs in the department, provides medical support assistance to the department and serves as an advocate for American Indian/Alaskan Natives (AI/AN) patients in the effective utilization of alternate resources such as Medicare, Medicaid, Department of Veteran's Affairs and Affordable Care Act (ACA), and the eligibility of services to AI/AN. Works with Purchased Referred Care personnel in screening for potential eligibility for services. Assists patients with applications for alternate resources and interpreting rules and regulations of the agency and/or federal and state entities. Maintains, enters, updates and verifies all alternate resources data necessary for patient registration and for accurate billing through the use of the Resource and Patient Management System (RPMS). Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-0679-08: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of full-time specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level that equipped me with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples include: Applying rules and procedures and regulations under the Purchased Referred Care (PRC) program; implementing PRC budget funding limitations; advising others of procedural and regulatory requirements; and assisting in the management of PRC transactions while submitting authorizations through proper channels. TYPING PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENT: In addition to meeting experience requirements, applicants for these positions must show possession of the following skills, as appropriate. Applicants may meet these requirements by passing the appropriate performance test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates by the Office of Personnel Management local office, or by self-certifying their proficiency. Performance test results and certificates of proficiency are acceptable for 3 years. Agencies may verify proficiency skills of self-certified applicants by administering the appropriate performance test. Applicants must have show evidence or have the at least a typing speed of 40 words per minute. This is a requirement for this position. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Education There are no education requirements. Additional Information Additional selection(s) of candidates may be possible within 240 days from the date the certificate of eligibles was issued for this announcement. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit. This position has no promotion potential.
