Job Summary:

Economically and efficiently manage and maintain the facility and equipment to the highest safety and operational standards

Key Responsibilities:

● Ensure that all refrigeration equipment, material handling equipment, building structure, security/fire alarms, and fire suppression systems are operating in a safe and efficient manner

● Manage work order system for general repairs and maintenance on building and grounds

● Participate in planning policies, procedures, goals and objectives regarding the physical plant

● Manage and schedule outside maintenance vendors through RFP (Request for Proposal) for such work and effectively coordinate with outside contractors, vendors, and government agencies in order to maintain the safety of the associates within the facility

● Participate in budgetary responsibilities to control facility maintenance expenses and offer input in capital budget recommendations with the general manager and other stakeholders.

● Encourage a safe work environment where team members feel a personal sense of responsibility for themselves and others

● Encourage “win/win” outcomes, leading by example to show cooperativeness, flexibility, and willingness to change

● Promote exceptional (WOW) Customer Service by building and maintaining effective communication with vendors, and internal and external customers

● Ensure timely completion of documentation and testing of evaporative condenser water treatment levels to meet requirements provided by vendor

● Monitor and manage the shop and engine room’s safety and sanitation levels

● Promote the following of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) standards in the facility, and maintain a neat and clean work environment, free of hazards

● Manage the Process Safety and Risk Management Plan to include functioning as on-scene leader during emergency response procedures, understand and train others on the Emergency Procedures and ensure they are up to date and accessible 24/7

● Actively participate in investigating accidents and near misses in a timely and efficient manner

● Participate in the hiring, onboarding, and training of maintenance and refrigeration team members to work in a safe manner in accordance with regulatory agencies and company standards

● Complete proper and timely preventative maintenance to ensure equipment and systems in the ammonia refrigeration system (such as compressors, condensers, evaporators, pumps, vessels, valves, purgers, etc.) operate efficiently, properly, and safely while also minimizing down time.

● Replace defective refrigeration equipment as needed

● Control the equipment temperature set points to accommodate the needs of our customers and maintain the integrity of the product.

● Maintain control of the water treatment system and and associated chemicals

● Ensure all paperwork and reports are accurate, completed on time and meets OSHA and EPA regulatory requirements

● Monitor third party maintenance vendors working near or with ammonia refrigeration system to ensure compliance with company, OSHA, and EPA safety policies

● Perform ammonia and oil sampling for analysis on regular schedule

● Train team members on ammonia leak and spill procedures, coaching those team members who require additional training to meet the standard

● Participate in leak and spill drills to meet requirements

● Actively participate in Emergency Response planning for location

● Inspect, test and calibrate ammonia detection system as needed

● Other duties as assigned

Education/Experience:

● Education - High school diploma or GED. College coursework, continuing technical education or comparable business experience preferred

● Minimum 5 year documented experience of operating an Ammonia Refrigeration System

● Lift Truck Maintenance or similar experience required

● Possess Certified Assistant Refrigeration Operator (CARO) Level 1 certification or ability to obtain within 180 days of hire required

● Experience with 3 phase electrical, control voltage, ladder logic, PLC Controls and HMI Interfaces required

● Knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM), or ability to complete PSM training within 90 days of hire required, to include ability to read and interpret PI & D drawings (process, instrumentation and diagrams), piping schematics and single line electrical drawings

Skills & Qualifications:

● Ability to complete 24 hour Emergency Training Course within 90 days of hire and 8 hour annual refresher course

● Ability to understand and comply with EPA and OSHA policies, procedures, programs and safety management

● Ability to remain calm and focused while prioritizing requests from multiple sources

● Ability to provide clear and constructive feedback, coaching, and counseling

● Ability to maintain and ensure confidentiality of team member and company information

● Proficient in computer usage to include data analysis, data compilation, email, word processing, spreadsheets (such as PowerPoint) and maintenance software (such as CMMS - Computerized Maintenance Management Systems)

● Ability to understand and comply with EPA and OSHA policies, procedures, programs and safety management

● Accuracy and attention to detail

● Able to read, write (with corrected or uncorrected vision), speak and understand English

● Ability to apply strong math skills that result in identification of opportunities and justify action plan recommendations

● Ability to accommodate flexible schedules to meet the needs of the customer to include nights, weekends and holidays

● Ability to travel - minimal

● Bilingual Preferred

Physical Demands:

● Independently lift up to 50 lbs frequently and 100 lbs occasionally

● Able to sit, stand, walk bend, squat on a frequent to continual basis in a refrigerated warehouse environment

● Ability to utilize good hand-eye coordination and depth perception to operate MHE equipment safely and accurately

● Able to grasp, reach, push or pull on a frequent basis

● Able to step up onto and down from equipment as required by task (such as forklift, reach truck, etc.)

● Endurance for continuous, fast paced work

● Must be able to pass respirator fit test, wear respirator and may be required to wear Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) if authorized & trained

● Able to adjust to fluctuating temperatures and withstand freezing temperatures as low as -20 degrees Fahrenheit

● Ability to work in a noisy warehouse environment

● Ability to work at elevated heights while wearing PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) for the job (such as fall protection harnesses)

● Able to work while wearing appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) for the job (such as steel-toed protective footwear, harness, safety glasses, hard hat, gloves, insulated clothing, etc)

● Ability to utilize equipment for the job safely and accurately after training (such as computer, handheld tracker, copiers, scanners, printers, radio headsets, forklift, reach truck, etc.)

● Ability to handle and physically be near products which may contain food allergens (such as fish, shellfish, peanuts, etc.)

In accordance with the Pay Transparency requirements, the following represents a good faith estimate of the compensation range for this position. At BJ’s Wholesale Club, we carefully consider a wide range of non-discriminatory factors when determining salary. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, education, experience, and qualifications. The pay range for this position is starting from $95,500.00.
