DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The Maintenance Repairman 2 at Ephrata Cloister assists the Facility Operations Supervisor in the management and preservation of 28 acres, 12 historic buildings, 4 non-historic buildings, and 2 cemeteries. As a steward of the Commonwealth's history, you will be called upon to exercise your carpentry, construction, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, custodial, and grounds keeping skills on a daily basis.

Summer months are devoted to landscape maintenance and grounds-keeping, including the maintenance of equipment used in those efforts. Winters are spent working on preservation projects, and when needed snow removal from driveways, parking lots and sidewalks. This position offers the opportunity to learn or expand your knowledge of fire and security systems and their monitoring, and includes responding to after hours alarms. You will assist in maintaining a clean and safe environment for visitors and staff. You will also assist with special program/event set-up and take-down, and may have an opportunity to participate in the program.

A candidate with a well-rounded background in small engine repair, plumbing, carpentry, landscaping, and electrical trades will find job fulfillment and room to grow in this position.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Wednesday - Sunday, with 60-minute lunch. Occasional evening, weekend, and holiday work for special events and operational needs will be required. This position responds to after-hours alarms. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Two years of experience as a Maintenance Repairman 1; or Four years of experience in building and plant maintenance work, which has involved at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities.

Special Requirements: This position requires possession of a valid Class C Driver's License, which is not under suspension.

Additional Requirements: Candidate must have two or more years of experience in the following: Maintaining exterior landscapes, including mowing, trimming shrubs and trees, snow removal, etc. Operating, maintaining and repairing maintenance equipment, including seasonal grounds equipment like mowers, string trimmers, snowplows and snow removal equipment Completing routine building repairs involving but not limited to plumbing, carpentry, and electrical systems You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required): It is preferred that the candidate have one or more years of experience: Maintaining historic bu ldings Managing a multifaceted HVAC and Fire and Security system that utilizes automated building control systems Working with volunteers

Legal Requirements: This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law. Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
