Who will you be working with?
You will be part of a talented team of engineers that demonstrate superb technical competency, delivering systems concepts that meet customer’s expectations and accomplishes its purpose safely in the most effective way possible considering performance, cost, schedule, and risk. We play a key role in the whole design cycle from proposal through final product validation ensuring requirements are flowed down and validated. We interact with a variety of stakeholders including but not limited to product managers, sub-systems engineers, manufacturing and final customers.
How will you make a difference?
The Engineering Cost Optimization Leader will be responsible for bringing cost discipline and drive design modularity approach for future products. The Leader will collaborate with product management, proposal and sub system engineering, supply chain teams and other concerned stakeholders, focused on cost effective solutions with the intent to optimize ACO.
This leader will also collaborate with the GLO operational excellence leader to stay aligned with the cost out goals of the business.
What do we want to know about you?
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
Minimum of 15 years of engineering experience preferably in the locomotive domain
Minimum of 10 years’ design experience in relevant specialization.
Hands on experience in factory support, production, engineering validation.
Experience and/or understanding of manufacturing, assembly & serviceability requirements.
Good understanding of cost estimating methods, ability to define and animate design-to-cost exercises in cooperation with cross functional teams.
Strong understanding & knowledge of should cost, design to cost, standardization, optimization, alternate materials, alternate process.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work in a cross-functional, global teams.
Demonstrated experience in influencing at all levels of the organization and customer relationship skill.
What will your typical day look like?
Drive cost out engineering activities to optimize value as well as margins for locomotive business primarily focused for T4 locomotives.
Generate ideas through cross functional workouts, prioritize execution and support NRE / ACO roll up efforts in collaboration with engineering General Managers and cross functional teams, including product, program, supply chain, sourcing, finance, etc
Generate project execution plan in alignment with broader business objectives and execute to this plan.
Understand product requirements, operating environment, and regulations to optimize the product cost and lead trade-off studies for product configuration.
Drive, platforming approach, standardization, modularization and increase re-use content, in consultation with Engineering & product management as well as other cross functions.
Conduct benchmark studies to determine competitiveness of new product proposal.
Serve as an enabler within the organization to bring stakeholders from multiple functions together to work collaboratively on the design cost.
Leverage design should cost for optimizing the product cost.
Partner with cross functional team in driving customer discovery session to incorporate learning from past projects, field & operational experience in country.
