Summary:

To install or maintain electrical systems for equipment and facilities in accordance with National Electrical Codes and provide guidance and direction to the facility with safe electrical practices.

What You Will Do

  • Serve as the licensed onsite Electrician and the subject matter expert in safe power distribution from incoming switchgears to equipment and facility.

  • Serve as the primary contact for electrical inspections and correspondence with the State Electrical Inspector.

  • Assume the role of Master of Record.

  • Read and comprehend electrical drawings and safety-based documents.

Essential Functions and Key Duties

  • Layout planning in all aspects of power distribution, lighting, specification of parts, ordering and installation of electrical wiring, conduits raceways and all other electrical components for plant layout changes and installation of new capital equipment.

  • Obtain permits as required by law to carry out electrical work.

  • Maintain documentation on all electrical panels and all electrical safety equipment.

  • Study blueprints and schematics to determine methods, materials, and equipment needed for assignment completion.

  • Repair or replace defective electrical equipment including plugs, switches, outlets, controls, ballasts, and motors.

  • Monitor facility power quality and recommend innovative improvements.

  • Check work performed by project or contract Electricians, maintenance employees and less skilled laborers.

  • Clean and lubricate equipment and maintain records on equipment status and maintenance.

  • Inspect and evaluate electrical equipment to ensure that it operates efficiently and safely and ensure that equipment and installations meet the National Electrical Code requirements.

  • Clean and maintain tools.

  • Test installations to check and ensure continuity of the circuit, and the compatibility and safety of all components using test equipment including ohmmeters, amp-meters, voltmeters, power quality meter, Hi-Pot tester, thermal imaging equipment and infrared temperature meters.

  • Commitment to continued education to maintain Master Electrician License.

What We Are Looking For

Education and Experience:

  • Current Minnesota “Class A” Master Electrician License. Assume the role of Master of Record.

  • High school graduate or equivalent. Trade school preferred.

Knowledge:

  • Well versed in the National Electrical Code requirements.

  • Advanced understanding of electrical devices used in power distribution including switchgear, controls, transformers, motors and electrical panels.

  • Completed advanced training relating to potential occupational hazards associated with electrical work and application of best practices for safety standards and the use of the proper protective equipment.

Skills:

  • Comprehend detailed electrical drawings and component specifications.

  • Good time management and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong attention to detail.

Abilities:

  • Work from ladders, scaffolds, and tight spaces and use of Aerial platform lift equipment.

  • Good manual dexterity.

  • Retain training information.

  • Strong work ethic and self-motivation with minimal supervision.

  • Collaborate with team members in a positive manner.

  • Lifting up to 50 lbs – 33% - 66% of time

  • Able to wear safety (steel- or composite-toed) shoes during entire shift

  • Able to wear hearing protection during entire shift
