Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation’s leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. The Department of Occupational Therapy is one of eight academic programs in the College of Health and Human Sciences. Colorado State University is Colorado’s land grant institution and holds the Doctoral/Research University – Extensive classification from the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education. Occupational Therapy is ranked 7th in the nation and is focused on a three-part mission of graduate teaching, research, scholarly work, and outreach/engagement/service. We are committed to our goal of producing nationally and internationally recognized research programs and graduates that are focused on helping people improve occupational performance and participation, thereby improving their health and quality of life throughout their lifespan.

The Department has 150 doctoral students ( OTD ) or masters OT students (transitioning to the OTD ), 12 Ph.D. students, and 20 faculty and staff members. Faculty in the Department of Occupational Therapy have a strong commitment to high-quality teaching, advising, and conducting innovative research with an emphasis on translational, and clinical work to improve clinical outcomes and disability. The Department of Occupational Therapy has a strong focus on community engagement and the development of occupational therapists.

The work unit exists to deliver a high-quality graduate education in Occupational Therapy (OT). The graduate program is highly ranked and nationally accredited. It promotes excellence related to the discipline of occupational therapy through teaching, research, and service.

Position Summary

Course instructor for class emphasizing competence in analysis of occupation with attention to psychosocial and contextual factors that influence performance in patterns of occupation.

Required Job Qualifications

Assistant Professor Level Applicant:

  • Earned research doctorate

  • Demonstrated promise for extraordinary scholarship related to the study of human performance and participation in everyday occupations and contexts

  • Commitment to building a focused program of research as evidenced by attempts to obtain intramural and/or extramural funding to support scholarship

  • Record of dissemination of scholarly work

  • Record of experience in, or demonstrated potential for, graduate-level teaching

  • Evidence of commitment to diversity and multicultural perspectives

Associate or Professor Level Applicant:

  • Earned research doctorate

  • Record of extraordinary scholarship and engagement at the national/international level related to the study of human performance and participation in everyday occupations and contexts

  • An established research program that is evidenced by sustained extramural research funding and refereed publications

  • Record of successful student research mentorship

  • Record of experience in teaching at the university level

  • Evidence of commitment to diversity and multicultural perspectives

  • Advanced master’s or occupational therapy doctorate in occupational therapy or related field

  • Experience teaching activity and occupation analysis with emphasis on psychosocial and contextual factors

Preferred Job Qualifications

Assistant Professor:

  • Eligible for certification as an occupational therapist in Colorado

  • Record of mentoring students in a research capacity

  • Record of teaching innovation

  • Experience collaborating with others to advance shared goals pertaining to education, research, or community-based practice and engagement

Associate or Professor:

  • Eligible for certification as an occupational therapist in Colorado

  • Record of teaching innovation

  • Experience collaborating with others to advance shared goals pertaining to education, research, or community-based practice and engagement

  • PhD in occupational therapy or related field

  • Experience developing and managing new courses

  • Interest and expertise in occupational science related content
