Description of Work Unit

The Colorado State University Department of Athletics sponsors 16 men’s and women’s intercollegiate sports and competes as a member of the NCAA Division I- FBS and the Mountain West Conference. The University is located in Fort Collins, Colorado, 65 miles north of Denver. Position Summary

The Senior Associate Athletic Director for Business Operations has accountability for the fiscal oversight of the Athletic Department, provides strategic budget direction for the department, leads with excellence throughout the organization, ensures alignment and compliance with federal, state University, Conference and NCAA policies and procedures; maintains strong working relationships with coaches, staff, University leadership and key stakeholders. Position is responsible for the leadership and supervision of the Athletic Business Office including overseeing all budget reconciliations, and national/governmental reporting duties. Individual is a member of the Athletics Executive Leadership Team and will serve as sport administrator as assigned by the Director of Athletics. Position takes strong initiative to research and understand current national issues facing NCAA member institutions for the purpose of forecasting financial strategies and budget requirements.

Required Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Business, Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Management, HPER , HES , Sports Management, Recreation, Economics, or any other field related to responsibilities and duties.

  • Minimum of 5 years of NCAA Division I Athletic Business experience

  • Minimum of 4 years of management/operations/supervisory experience.

  • Demonstrated experience with strategic planning, management, fiscal direction and analysis, and organizational skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, and meet deadlines.

  • Proficiency in variety of software products and strong computer skills with familiarity with spreadsheet and database systems.

  • Demonstrated experience with revenue generation strategies and financial operations in higher education.

  • Must be able to demonstrate commitment to supportive client services and focused on internal and external customers

  • Able to engage in occasional out-of-town and overnight travel

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree

  • Experience in Kuali Financial System, Oracle, Banner, Talent Management System, Time Clock Plus, WebFocus or similar financial systems

  • Demonstrate ability to support a diverse and inclusive campus community

  • Experience developing and presenting budget analysis to campus constituents as requested

  • Experience with business partners including internal and external auditors and legal counsel.

  • Experience working with Teamworks and athletics-designated travel partner, e.g., Shorts Travel

  • Serve as Chief Financial Officer responsible for overseeing the Department’s financial management of a $60M budget.

  • Oversee the budgeting process for all sports programs and operational units.

  • Ensure fiscally responsible operations thru the implementation of sound budget management practices.

  • Oversee all contract negotiations with third-party providers

  • Adhere to all applicable federal, state, institutional, conference and NCAA rules, laws, and regulations.

  • Demonstrate leadership in the efficient planning, management, and enhancement of financial resources.

  • Align resources with university and department strategic initiatives

  • Seek efficiencies in all areas of operations

  • Review and approve daily business office functions including travel vouchers, disbursement vouchers, purchase orders, payment requests, internal orders, work orders, journal entries, P-Card Allocations, etc.

  • Coordinate allocation and tracking of all trade agreements

  • Provide oversight of Shorts Travel and Teamworks partnerships

  • Oversee and assist Assistant AD for Talent Management or other assigned personnel as they partner with Compliance and Financial Aid to distribute aid awards to student athletes, perform customer service for student-athletes and organize summer school aid. Work to ensure compliance with MWC , NCAA and University Financial Aid regulations.

  • Participate as a member of the Athletics Leadership Team and Business Office unit by attending staff meetings, collaborating on initiatives that serve the best interests of CSU Athletics, and represent the Department of Athletics within conference, campus, and community events

  • Provide oversight of Business Office staff and other units as assigned by the Director of Athletics

  • Demonstrate commitment to inclusive environment for staff and continuously strive to meet the University’s Principles of Community and and meeting department’s guiding principles.

  • Ensure compliance with all departmental, University, conference and NCAA procedures, rules and regulations.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
