Software Performance Quality Engineer - Expert Level

Overview:

Applies advanced subject matter expertise in software performance engineering and quality assurance to solve complex business issues. Regarded as an authority in software performance testing, analysis, optimization, and quality measures. Contributes significantly to developing new ideas, methods, and best practices spanning performance engineering and quality assurance domains. Works on highly complex performance issues where in-depth evaluation of multiple technical and business factors is required. Leads and provides expertise to cross-functional project teams focused on performance quality assurance. Acts as a leading expert providing direction, guidance, and establishing policies to drive process improvements. Frequently represents the organization externally on matters related to software performance and quality. Exercises significant independent judgment to determine optimal approaches for accomplishing objectives. Provides mentoring and guidance to less experienced performance engineers.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads software quality teams responsible for all stages of performance quality assurance, including test strategy, load/stress testing, results analysis, bottleneck resolution, and optimization measures.

  • Provides consultation to cross-functional performance and software development teams on design for performance, testability, and associated quality assurance plans.

  • Develops overarching quality programs encompassing performance engineering, industry standard quality tools, and quality assurance methodologies.

  • Conducts advanced failure analysis, root cause identification, and corrective actions for performance issues during development, testing, and operations.

  • Analyzes quality data to identify areas for preventing software performance issues, improving detection of problems, and enhancing overall performance.

  • Drives innovation in performance testing techniques, analytical tools, and acceleration methods to proactively identify potential performance issues early.

  • Proactively addresses partner and customer requests/issues related to performance or quality, ensuring timely resolution while coordinating with relevant stakeholders.

  • Acts as a subject matter expert on software performance measurement methods and metrics collaborating with cross functional teams on method alignment.

  • Actively mentors less experienced engineers in performance engineering and quality assurance domains.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.

  • Typically 7-10 years of experience in software performance engineering, quality assurance, or related areas.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Extensive experience with software performance engineering tools, quality assurance processes, and associated methodologies.

  • Expert knowledge of software performance testing, analysis, bottleneck resolution, and quality assurance best practices.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills for resolving complex performance and quality issues.

  • Strong understanding of software architecture and design principles that impact performance.

  • Experience with software applications running on diverse platforms and environments.

  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts and recommendations at senior leadership levels.

Impact/Scope:

  • Collaborates with peers, engineers, quality teams, and external partners.

  • Interacts with high-level contributors, managers, directors, and cross-functional leadership.

  • Leads projects spanning performance engineering and quality assurance disciplines.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is $102500 - $157850 annually with additional opportunities for pay in the form of bonus and/or equity. Pay within this range varies by work location and may also depend on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
