PRAIRIE LAKES AEA Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) in Fort Dodge, Iowa
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction and supervision of a Licensed Occupational Therapist (OT), the Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) assists in the provision of occupational therapy services by completing a variety of tasks such as assist with screenings, assessment, intervention, treatment and activities to enhance motor, sensory, self-regulatory, feeding and other functional participation in school routines.
The COTA works with students under the direction of the Occupational Therapist to provide direct and consultative services by utilizing specialized equipment and treatment techniques to designated students according to an individual educational program (IEP) or 504 plan.
QUALIFICATION:
- EDUCATION:Associate degree from a college or university with an approved and accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant Program
- LICENSURE: Occupational Therapy Assistant license issued by Iowa Department of Public Health, Iowa Board of Education Examiners Statement of Professional Recognition
- EXPERIENCE:Previous experience or interest in pediatrics desired
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assist with screenings, assessments and occupational therapy services
- Deliver services using direct, consultation, and coaching of LEA staff as written in the IEP and directed by supervising OT
- Deliver services by implementing interventions using least restrictive methods and environments
- Document student progress toward meeting established objectives
- Report progress monitoring data to supervising therapist for decision making information purposes
- Demonstrate knowledge in and provide evidence-based interventions in collaboration with supervising OT
- Participate in IEP meetings or 504 plan meetings as delegated by OT
- Prepare therapy materials and/or equipment and provide necessary training to students, LEA staff, and caregivers
- Adapt or modify instructional materials and/or equipment
- Document and maintain written reports and records on interventions and student progress
- Build strong, trusting relationships with students, staff, and families to provide a safe, welcoming environment
- Other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to travel between schools and sites served
- Normal, routine levels of activity related to bending, carrying, climbing, hearing, lifting, reaching, sitting, standing, vision and walking, and may also involve above-average levels of activity at times that cant always be anticipated
