Army Installation Management Command Utility Systems Operator in Fort Hunter Liggett, California

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Direct Hire Auth 5 U.S.C. ยง 9905, 10/15/2021 to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Responsibilities Maintain water and wastewater treatment systems and associated equipment in order to ensure proper operation. Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and conduct daily testing of drinking water and wastewater systems in accordance with State and Federal regulations. Perform laboratory duties to ensure water and wastewater are meeting standards. Use knowledge derived from various sources and experience to maintain and repair water and wastewater plant equipment. Perform duties in accordance with all safety and security regulations and guidelines. Oversee the operation of water and wastewater systems. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Utility Systems Operator without more than normal supervision. Perform troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance tasks for water and/or wastewater treatment plant equipment; test drinking water samples for compliance with regulations; maintain daily records and logs; operate water distribution valves and hydrants; and operate primary and secondary wastewater treatment under the supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who reviews my work for completion. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Incumbent operators perform considerable walking, standing on concrete floors, climbing stairways, and working outdoors under adverse conditions. Moderate to heavy physical effort is required to turn valves, operate equipment, and lift bags of chemicals. Operators are required to lift up to 60 pounds occasionally, and carry heavier items with assistance of other workers, or with lifting devices. WORKING CONDITIONS: Operators will work outdoors under adverse conditions for periods of time. They must drive outside under wintry conditions. They are subject to cuts, bruises and abrasions from use of tools and equipment. Subject to chemical burns and exposure in specific locations at the wastewater Treatment Plant, Water Plant, and swimming pool. Operators are required to follow safety practices and use safety and personal protection equipment. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
