Northrop Grumman Defense Systems sector (NGDS) is seeking a motivated professional to join our team as Principal Military Trainer - Targeting Officer, Joint Targeting Team at Fort Leavenworth in Kansas . This position is in support of the Mission Command Training Program (MCTP) and trains Army Corps, Divisions, and Brigades in the Army Mission Command Systems and Operations Process. This is done thru an integrated simulation to replicate a robust Operating Environment (OE). Units conduct exercises in Large Scale Combat Operations with all appropriate operational variables that would be present in a theater of operations in order to develop efficiency in the operations process.

Targeting Team:

This team is part of Scenario Design (SD) and works with Plans, the Joint Effects Division (JED), and Current Operations (CUOPS) to develop the High Command (HICOM) targeting plan. This includes development of the Joint Targets List (JTL), Joint Integrated Prioritized Target List (JIPTL), and Electronic Target Folders (ETF). The team travels to exercises and will be split between the HICOM and Exercise Control Group (ECG) to maintain the appropriate situational awareness and control for the exercises.

  • In planning, serves as part of the Plans Team to develop operational environments, scenarios, and HICOM orders for execution with a focus on Targeting

  • In preparation, the team develop and refines ETFs at the Corps (as required), Land Component Command (LCC), and Joint Force Command (JFC) level. This is done using the Training Modernized Integrated Database (MIDB), Joint Targeting Toolbox-Capability Package (JTT-CP), and the scenario being used

  • In execution, facilitates the targeting process at the HICOM level and above as a core member of the HICOM Targeting Working Group (TWG) and Targeting Decision Board (TDB) in order to ensure the exercise is creating the desired training conditions

  • During the ELC (Exercise Life Cycle), the team serves as a conduit and liaison between Scenario Design, MCTP, and the respective training unit fires sections. This includes participating and facilitating the Exercise Design Targeting Working Group (TWG) as appropriate

  • This team works with SD, JED, 505th DET 1, 505th Combat Training Squadron (CTS), and Air Joint Support Team (AJST) in order to replicate the holistic fires WfF for the WFX

Responsibilities:

  • Assists in developing Corps / LCC / JFC targeting input to include Time Sensitive Targets (TST), Commanders Critical Target List (CCTL), and JIPTL development

  • Assists training audience in nesting targeting efforts at the ASCC, Corps, and Division by overseeing the targeting process

  • Develops the High Payoff Target List (HPTL), Target Selection Standards (TSS), Attack Guidance Matrix (AGM), and Target Synchronization Matrix (TSM)

  • Assists training audience in nesting targeting efforts at the ASCC, Corps, and Division by overseeing the targeting process

  • Conducts Joint Target List management using Training MIDB and JTT-CP

  • Provides input to the No Strike List (NSL) and Restricted Target List (RTL)

  • Recommend desired effect to achieve JFC level intent and ensures that training objectives are met

  • Assists the training audience on ensuring target nominations and Air Support Request (ASR) timelines are met

  • Assists in JIPTL development by conducting de facto Joint Targeting Coordination Board (JTCB)

  • Assists MCTP Intel Coordination Division (ICD) in conducting Battle Damage Assessment (BDA)

  • Updated electronic target folders as required using JTT

Basic Qualifications:

  • One of the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 6 years of professional and/or military experience

  • Master’s degree with a minimum of 4 years of professional and/or military experience

  • U.S. Army Command and General Staff College (CGSC), Warrant Officer ILE, or service equivalent

  • U.S. Military service as a Field Grade Officer (MAJ, LTC, COL) or Warrant Officer Equivalent (CW3, CW4)

  • Familiar with current Army and Joint doctrine

  • Must possess and active U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance

  • Familiar with Advanced Field Artillery Targeting and Direction System (AFATADS), Joint Automated Deep Operations Coordination System (JADOCS), JTT-CP, MIDB

  • Must be able to travel as needed (up to 25% of the time)

  • Must be able to work on-site at Fort Leavenworth in Kansas

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate Degree

  • U.S. Army War College or service equivalent

  • Mastery of current Army and Joint doctrine

  • Should have experience as an OCT (Observer, Coach, Trainer) and as a WFX participant

  • Experience targeting using MIDB and JTT-CP

  • Leadership experience in the Army CTC program, preferably MCTP

  • Joint Targeting Staff (JTS) Staff Course certified (2-week course)

Salary Range: $69,600 - $104,400

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
