What you’ll be doing:

The Enterprise Data team is the steward of all data and enterprise-level data solutions at Staples. It is a cross-functional team of analysts, product managers, product owners, program managers, architects, and data engineers that build solutions to power data-driven decisions at Staples.

Within the Enterprise Data team, we are the Customer Data pod focused on developing our capabilities related to customer data. This includes building and maintaining a comprehensive Customer Master foundation, developing solutions that provide seamless visibility into our customers’ end-to-end lifecycle with Staples, and creating an infrastructure that allows for speedy analysis, modeling, and execution of business initiatives. We are the data-enablers powering customer-centricity and personalization across the company!

As an analyst on this team, you will play a critical role in understanding our data and generating insights that inform our execution. This may involve profiling data sources, comparing datasets, creating intuitive BI visualizations, crafting measurement strategies for initiatives, sizing and prioritizing issues, digging into the data to uncover root-causes of data-quality issues, and so on. In addition, you will work with stakeholders to understand problems and opportunities, and craft clear, detailed, and structured requirement documents.

This is a very hands-on data role and requires not only technical skills but also a natural curiosity to learn, attention to detail, tenacity to chase down answers, and the ability to work in cross-functional teams. What you bring to the table:

  • Curiosity to learn and understand new topics, both broadly as well as deeply

  • A sense of ownership and drive things forward proactively whenever possible

  • Ability to break down a problem into components and solve in a structured way. Ability to make sense of situations using data, interpreting, and generating insights.

  • Ability to explain yourself well through clear and concise oral and written communication. Able to interact and collaborate with technical as well as non-technical stakeholders, and craft well-structured narratives and documents.

  • Strong SQL skills with to be able to navigate your way through our data effortlessly. Should have experience working with large datasets.

  • Experience with at least one BI tool (e.g. PowerBI)

What’s needed- Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in a field with quantitative rigor (or equivalent demonstrated experience in quantitative/analytical work)

What’s needed- Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in Master Data Management (MDM). Preferably Customer MDM. Ideally with experience tackling issues and challenges of matching techniques.

  • Familiarity with data hygiene, common cleansing techniques, and best practices around these

  • B2B / B2C / Retail backgrounds are helpful
