The Arc of Frederick County Direct Support Professional (DSP) in Frederick, Maryland
Duties
:
- Assist individuals in implementing services specified in their Individual Person-Centered Plan and to achieve their goals.
- Provide instruction to support individuals to be successful with household management, scheduling, banking, education, and with other opportunities.
- Provide support to assist individuals with participation in work, community-based training and enrichment activities, and with career advancement opportunities.
- Serve as a contact/liaison between individuals, natural supports, and community members to help the person served successfully problem solve and live more independently in their community.
- Develop back-up plans incorporating an individuals natural supports.
- Provide personal care assistance as needed.
- Form cooperative relationships with individuals with disabilities, businesses, and the general public.
- Write individual progress notes to document persons activities and progress and provide other documentation as needed.
- Support self-advocacy and other endeavors that promote the inclusion of people in their communities.
- For staff administrating medications - verify individual receiving medication and record name of medication, dosage, and time of administration on specified forms or records.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Maintain Compliance with agency training.
Qualifications:
- Experience in working with people who have intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Strong belief in provision of self-determination for people who have developmental disabilities.
- A valid drivers license and a reliable automobile to support people served with accessing their community, building natural supports, independent living, employment, and training opportunities.
- All staff are required to have an active email address or phone/voicemail or text messenger system that they check daily and respond to scheduling and other requests made to them by members of their team within one business day.
- Age 18 years or older and has a high school diploma or equivalent.
- DSPs are required to limit personal technological distractions (i.e. phone calls, social media, texts, etc.) or any other personal activities that removes direct attention from the person/people they are working with.
