Description
Tyler Houk (Practice Director) with Robert Half has partnered with a growing organization offering an exciting opportunity for a Controller in the construction industry, located in Fresno, California. The Controller will be a key leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company's accounting and finance functions. This position requires a strong grasp of accounting principles, excellent managerial skills, and the ability to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities:
• Manage the preparation and dissemination of accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards (e.g., GAAP, IFRS) and regulatory requirements
• Oversee the month-end and year-end closing processes
• Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and chart of accounts
• Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and adjustments
• Develop and maintain internal control policies and procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with regulations
• Coordinate internal and external audits and address audit findings by implementing corrective actions as needed
• Collaborate with tax advisors to develop tax strategies and ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations
• Oversee the preparation and filing of tax returns, including income tax, sales tax, and other regulatory filings
• Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations and assess their impact on the company
• Provide financial analysis and insights to support decision-making and strategic planning
• Assist in budgeting and forecasting processes and identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement
• Lead and mentor the accounting team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and professional growth
• Set performance goals and provide regular feedback to team members
• Recruit, train, and retain top accounting talent.
Requirements
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in a Controller role within the Construction/Contractor industry.
• Proficiency in the execution of Budget Processes, Month End Close, and Financial Reporting.
• Comprehensive understanding of US GAAP.
• Experience in handling Mergers & Acquisitions (M& A) processes.
• Proven ability to Analyze Financial Statements.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• CPA or similar certification is highly desired.
• Strong leadership skills with a dedication to driving and achieving results.
• Excellent communication, organizational and analytical skills.
• Familiarity with construction/contractor industry-specific software and technology.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple tasks concurrently.
