Howmet Fastening Systems (HFS) is seeking Machining Tech III in our Fullerton, CA location. HFS is a business unit of Howmet Aerospace, headquartered in Torrance, California. Job Duties and Responsibilities

Set-up for operation by self or others, various machines in Small Punch Press, Assembly and other manufacturing departments. Able to trouble shoot all machining and tooling issues in the department as necessary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Sets up, according to work order and set up standard procedures, machines which have been adapted to, or designed for, specialized company products and/or processes.

  • Checks parts with standard gages or precision measuring instruments and submits parts for “first article” inspection as required.

  • Operates machines to ensure proper functioning and releases to and instructs operator in procedures for producing parts in conformance with specifications.

  • Runs, monitors and troubleshoots equipment in production, adjusting set-up as necessary.

  • Recognizes improper machine functioning and/or tooling problems and takes corrective action.

  • Performs routine preventive maintenance procedures on equipment.

  • Assists maintenance in troubleshooting equipment by applying knowledge of individual machine characteristics.

  • S.P.C. charting as required.

  • Learns the set up and operation of any new machines added to the departments to which assigned.

  • Performs other related tasks in departments to which assigned such as: Assembling, drilling, tapping, deburring, sorting, counting, etching, stamping, recording of parts processed and housekeeping

  • Reads blueprints and has knowledge to use micrometers, calipers, comparators, thread gauges, depth micrometers and dial indicators as needed.

  • Assist factory supervision and leaders in the training of machine operators.

  • Parts to be lifted and/or transported may weigh up to 30 lbs.

  • Keeps work area clean, safe and in an orderly fashion on a daily basis.

  • Performs other tasks of equal or lesser skill as required.

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience operating machinery

  • Mechanical experience preferred

  • Experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment

  • Ability to read and understand manufacturers drawings, catalogs, and other written or verbal instructions.

  • Able to read/interpret part drawings, use quality tools (calipers, mics, comparators)

  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift/move 30 lbs. (may not exceed per EHS policies)

  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Experience in a fastener manufacturing environment
