Job Title: Environmental Data Analyst

Location(s): Grand Junction, CO

Status: Full-Time

FLSA: Exempt

Hiring Range: $60,000 - $80,000/yr. ( The anticipated starting salary is based on minimum requirements for this position. The offered salary will be based upon the selected applicant’s education, training, and experience.)

RSI EnTech, LLC is recruiting for an Environmental Data Analyst who will support environmental data management and analysis across the Department of Energy’s Office of Legacy Management sites and programs. Assist with the management and reporting of environmental data, including environmental sample analysis results, location survey information, hydrogeological information, groundwater levels, well construction information, etc.

Primary responsibilities and essential functions:

  • Function as an environmental professional assisting with the management of data quality and reporting of environmental data, including environmental sample analysis results, location survey information, hydrogeological information, groundwater levels, well construction information, etc.

  • Conduct data mapping and migration operations for environmental data. Understand environmental data types and associated metadata in support of site data transition projects and associated data quality assessments.

  • Manage & manipulate environmental data using database tools such as SQL Server, SQL Reporting Services, and Microsoft Access.

  • Detailed understanding of the data collection methodologies and data storage needs for management and reporting of environmental data.

  • Load routine and non-routine data sets into databases and data systems from sources such as laboratories, surveyors, spreadsheets, other databases, well logs, etc.

  • Evaluate migrated data sets for completeness and correctness. Review migrated data for quality assurance and ongoing quality control.

  • Run reports & queries to ensure data quality and accuracy. Insert, update, and, when necessary, delete data in the environmental data management system to increase data quality.

  • Work with data owners to analyze and improve data quality.

  • Work with other environmental data analysts to improve processes, procedures, and reporting tools.

  • Collaborate with CAD, GIS, remote telemetry, and land and survey teams, groundwater modelers, chemists, and other environmental professionals to aid in data analysis and reporting.

  • Develop scripts or programs to migrate various data types into the environmental data management system.

  • Perform some programming to develop data analysis, reporting, and task automation tools.

Work experience, skills, and capabilities needed :

  • 5 years of experience managing change in and quality of environmental or geospatial data management systems.

  • Intermediate to senior level understanding of relational database systems and structured query language (SQL).

  • Experience with, or basic understanding of, field data collection, analytical laboratory data, and geospatial data.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and demonstrated ability to improve data quality.

Technical knowledge, certifications/licenses, and software proficiency required:

  • Intermediateto senior levelexperience with relational database systems, Microsoft SQL Server, and structured query language (SQL), SQL Server Management Studio or Toad for SQL Server.

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications, particularly MS Excel and MS Access with querying capabilities.

  • Experience with field data collection and analytical laboratory data.

  • Capable of performing tasks such as: creating spreadsheets; composing correspondence; manage databases; and create presentations, reports, and documents using desktop software and digital graphics.

  • The ability to independently track, organize, and prioritize work tasks to meet established objectives, using discretion in performing duties.

  • Demonstrated competency of language skills, mathematical skills, communication skills, and reasoning ability and computer skills necessary to perform essential functions of the job.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and demonstrated ability to improve data quality.

  • Exhibit professionalism in dealings with other employees, customers, and subcontractors.

  • Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations.

  • Demonstrated ability to document changes to data and systems, and experience with data quality metrics.

  • Experience working with environmental data in collaboration with multiple, potentially conflicting, customer requirements.

  • Valid driver’s license.

Desirable qualifications, experience, or proficiencies of the ideal candidate:

  • Familiar with the use of EQuIS Professional, Enterprise, Sample Planning Module, and EDGE.

  • Familiarity with one or more programming languages (such as SQL, Visual Basic, Python, etc.)

  • Experience with, or basic understanding of, data governance concepts.

  • Experience using Esri ArcGIS software with basic understanding of geospatial data, storage practices, and use.

Required Education and Years of Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field with a minimum of 5 years’ experience. Experience in lieu of education may be considered.
