Mesa County Residential Building Inspector - Community Development in Grand Junction, Colorado

JOB SUMMARY:

Performs inspections of all construction to insure project is built in accordance with approved design documents and is in compliance with all applicable local and state codes.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Performs primarily residential building, mechanical, plumbing and Onsite Wastewater Treatment (OWTS) inspections on a daily basis to insure compliance of adopted codes.

Establish, maintain and process all project inspection records, documents and forms as necessary. Computer entry and written documentation skills a must.

Provides, clear and concise verbal and or written directives.

Verifies all required permits, licenses and documents have been obtained.

Prompt and courteous responses to inquiries from public, contractors and co-workers required.

Drives county vehicle while performing normal daily inspections.

Maintains county vehicle and equipment; reports any defects to appropriate supervisor.

Field verifies project documents for code compliance and communicates findings to appropriate persons.

Regularly, attends staff meetings, seminars and training sessions as required.

Oral and written communications must be clear and effective.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or Equivalent and minimum of (4) years of construction related experience.

Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job.

Licenses and Certifications:

ICC Commercial Plumbing Inspector Certification or approved state license (Required within 12 months of hire)

ICC Commercial Building Inspector Certification or approved state license (required within 24 months of hire)

(Or specialized ICC certifications approved by Chief Building Official)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

This position requires climbing stairs, ladders and scaffolding, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, twisting, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Must be able to lift one s own body weight as related to performing inspections. Must pass a pre-employment and annual physical.

The employee is frequently exposed to dirt, smoke, fumes, extreme heat and cold for long duration, outside atmospheric conditions, traffic noise, and dust for sustained periods.

The employee is frequently exposed to possible bodily injury from moving mechanical parts of equipment, tools, and machinery

The employee is occasionally exposed to possible bodily injury from electrical shock, falling from high places, and toxic or caustic chemicals.

While performing the essential functions of this job, shaking objects or surfaces; conditions such as fumes, noxious odors, mists, gases, and poor ventilation that affect the respiratory system eyes, or the skin.
