Metro Health Head of Community Outreach & Wellness Education in Grand Rapids, Michigan

Metro Health (now the University of Michigan Health-West) is looking for - Head of Community Outreach & Wellness Education.

Under limited direction, the Head of Community Outreach & Wellness Education Coordinator is accountable for researching, developing, marketing and coordinating community outreach, employee wellness programs and Perinatal Education. Monitors the ongoing progress for all internal and external programs, oversees associated budgets and reports on the desired outcomes. Represents the hospital and department on internal and external committees. Additionally, this position will coordinate event set up, volunteers, marketing materials, communication, promotion items and other event resources. Key programs and projects include Perinatal Education coordination and oversight for the UMH-West Farmer's Market.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Public Administration, Health Promotion, Health Science or another related field, preferred.
  • Two (2) years of experience in community outreach, wellness, program administration or closely related experience required.
  • Current BLS Provider certification through the American Heart Association required.
  • Experience overseeing wellness or community outreach initiatives, health screening, and or program delivery in a healthcare setting highly preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Superior customer service and relationship skills with a commitment to excellence.
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational, coordination and follow through skills.
  • Demonstrated use of computers, data entry, and Microsoft products. Comfortable adapting to new software. Previous experience with CB Tracker software would be helpful.
  • Ability to adapt to current and future trends in community wellness.
  • Management of the department budget.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Develops strategies for community health, outreach and employee wellness programs and services that include lectures, blood drives, screenings, classes, etc.

Provides oversight to community health and employee wellness events, speakers' bureaus and other initiatives.

Works with Marketing on promotion of these events and the Chief Community Officer to develop and monitor budget.

Designs and delivers health education opportunities for community and employees. Continually tracks, measures and evaluates the effectiveness of all initiatives.

Provides work direction, supervision and training to assigned staff, interns, volunteers and future employees, as needed.

Develops and implements community and health system-based projects.

Participates in internal and external teams overseeing community health.

Serves as community liaison for community health initiatives at the UMH-West Conference Center.

Identifies, elicits participation, and assigns UMH-West staff, management and/or physicians to support community events. Assists with recruiting and managing internal and external interns and volunteers as needed.

Plans, oversees, coordinates, and attends the Metro Way 5K, YMCA Youth Races, and UMH-West Farmer's Market.

Collaborates with Marketing on event media, providing key event details, pictures and other visuals for social media as needed.

Assists with the coordination of event set up including venue, tents, tables, promotional items and marketing materials.

Manages the external events calendar for all prenatal education sessions ensuring classes schedules are added and/or updated.
