Job Summary - Vice President, Procurement

The Vice President of Procurement provides strategic direction for all purchasing, sourcing, and contracting support activities for Corewell Health, managing billions of dollars in spend annually. The Vice President of Procurement works closely with senior executives to ensure consistent quality in sourcing and purchasing, to identify strategic partnerships across the organization, and to ensure alignment with Corewell Health strategic plans. The Vice President works with executive leadership to define strategic goals related to savings targets, supplier partnerships, and limiting risk and liability in the organizations procurement activities.The Vice President of Procurement is also responsible for representing Supply Chain on behalf of Corewell Health inside and outside of the organization. Demonstrates entrepreneurial, visionary leadership skills and an ability to rally resources toward a common goal. The Vice President of Procurement is responsible for driving the best value through strong data analytics and innovative Supply Chain Management strategies. Uses benchmarking and external examples to create a leading-edge strategic sourcing capability to help enable the Corewell Health strategic plan through its supply base. Continuously works to find new ways to bring additional value to our ultimate customer: the patient and member.

Essential Functions - Vice President, Procurement

  • Responsible to develop and implement the Sourcing strategy for non- labor expenses across the Corewell Health including supplies, pharmaceuticals, services, technology and capital. This includes working with the Supply Chain team to develop business partner relationships to understand key business requirements needed from key suppliers. Works with key suppliers to support management of outcomes consistent with business needs, both clinical and nonclinical.

  • Responsible to establish control and compliance to Corewell Health’s procure to pay processes and policies.

  • Responsible to help business leaders achieve annual cost, performance, and quality goals.

  • Oversees contracts and negotiations of all supply, purchased services and equipment purchases with suppliers. This includes cost containment considerations through contract bids and negotiations. Reviews contracts, bids, proposals, and supplier agreements for legal correctness, price, and acceptability of items to specifications. Establishes and maintains appropriate relationships with suppliers and related organizations.

  • Oversees staffing strategy for the team, emphasizing the need to increase knowledge and disciplinary expertise for given area. Creates an effective and collaborative work environment for team and organization.

  • Assumes accountability for leading & delivering quality Purchasing services through consistent applications of policies, procedures, & standards. Makes suggestions for change & provides input into policies, procedures, & goals as needed.

  • Ensures supply chain policies, programs, and plans are consistent with and support Corewell Health’s core values and mission. Advises senior management on matters pertaining to supply chain related topics within assigned discipline.

  • Create new, innovative, relationships and strategies with key suppliers that will prepare Corewell Health for the next decade. Works closely with key suppliers to develop demand driven contracts that maximize value to our patients and members.

Qualifications - Vice President, Procurement

  • Required Bachelor's Degree or equivalent Supply Chain Management, Business or related.

  • Preferred Master's Degree or equivalent MBA.

  • 7 years of relevant experience Strategic sourcing or procurement Required.

  • Progressively responsible leadership experience, preferably in Supply Chain or Procurement Required.

  • Experience working in an organization of size and complexity comparable to Corewell Health Required.

  • Demonstrated experience managing a large team with preference for experience in overseeing strategic sourcing functions Required.

  • Professional in Supply Management, Certified (CPSM) - preferred.
