Group Trucks Purchasing is seeking a highly skilled and experienced project professional to lead the North America Capacity project. This pivotal initiative aims to expand our production capabilities by establishing a new heavy-duty truck plant in Mexico. This new footprint will supplement our U.S. production capabilities, enhancing our manufacturing capacity and operational efficiency.

The leader of this project office will play a pivotal role in ensuring the project's success by overseeing all purchasing activities, managing project timelines, coordinating with cross-functional teams and the other Purchasing synergy community from a purchasing perspective. This position will sit on the Group Trucks Purchasing North America’s (GTP-NA) leadership team and report directly to the Head of GTP-NA.

This role requires strong leadership, communication, and project management skills, with the ability to think strategically and manage complexity. The PMO leader needs executive presence and purchasing knowledge to represent GTP in various steering committees and drive the change to stay ahead areas with multiple stakeholders.

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead GTP’s North America Capacity project team working with the strategic line, regional teams and Purchasing Community to ensure successful delivery and capture synergies

  • Develop and implement GTP’s comprehensive project plan for North America Capacity (NAC) project that aligns with GTP’s overall Change to Stay Ahead strategy

  • Provide leadership and guidance to project managers and team members

  • Provide input to project budget and aligning financial targets. Coordinate teams to ensure project milestones are met and within budget

  • Define GTP/NAC goals and deliverables in collaboration with GTP representatives and project stakeholders

  • Identify cost-saving or mitigation opportunities without compromising quality or project timelines

  • Secure that the project requirements are transferred to the purchasing teams

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including engineering, manufacturing, logistics, and finance teams, to ensure seamless project execution

  • Maintain strong relationships with local and global stakeholders

  • Act as the primary point of contact for all procurement-related matters on the project

  • Identify potential risks related to procurement and develop mitigation strategies

  • Monitor and assess supplier performance with internal purchasing stakeholders and address any issues that arise

  • Provide regular updates to senior management on project status, including progress, challenges, and solutions

  • Prepare detailed reports on procurement activities, highlighting key metrics and achievements

  • Ensure transparency and accountability in all reporting processes

  • Contribute to strategic decision-making as a member of the local GTP leadership team

  • Represent GTP NA in the selected North America governance bodies at the executive level

  • Secure that purchasing requirements are considered in projects pre-requisites and statements of work

  • Ensure that procurement strategies align with the overall project goals and objectives

  • Advocate for the purchasing team's needs and priorities within the broader project context

  • Ensure adherence to Volvo Group's procurement policies and procedures

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and industry standards

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree or PMP certification is a plus

  • Experience: Minimum of 8 years of experience in project management, with a focus on procurement and supply chain within the manufacturing industry. Experience in the automotive or heavy-duty truck sector is highly desirable.

  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams, manage complex projects, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment

  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with stakeholders at all levels

  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on data-driven decision-making

  • Language Skills: Proficiency in English is required. Spanish language skills are a plus but not mandatory

  • Travel Requirements: The role requires 50-70% travel to various locations, both domestically and internationally
