Reports To: Building Principal

*FLSA Status: *Exempt

Work Schedule: Full-time (200 workdays)

Starting Date: August 1, 2024

Pay Scale: $70,000 (start)   

JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Elementary Dean of Students to join our team. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to promoting a safe, respectful, and engaging school culture while supporting students' academic and social-emotional growth.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

  • Oversee and implement school-wide discipline policies, ensuring consistency and fairness.
  • Foster a positive school climate by promoting and modeling respectful and inclusive behavior.
  • Work closely with teachers, staff, and parents to support student success and address behavioral or academic concerns.
  • Develop and lead initiatives that enhance student engagement, leadership, and character development.
  • Collaborate with student support staff to provide comprehensive support for students.
  • Lead Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions, ensuring targeted support and effective implementation for students requiring additional behavioral assistance.
  • Monitor and analyze student behavior and attendance data to identify trends and implement proactive strategies.
  • Facilitate restorative practices and conflict resolution among students.
  • Coordinate and supervise school-wide events and activities that promote community building.
  • Maintains a positive working relationship with parents and acts as a problem solver when concerns arise. 
  • Develops an atmosphere of trust, respect, interest and enthusiasm within the school.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

*KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: *

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Valid Michigan teaching or administrative certification.
  • Minimum of three years of experience working in an educational setting, preferably at the elementary level.
  • Strong understanding of child development, behavior management, and restorative practices.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including students, parents, teachers, and community members.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable school environment.
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of organizational and management practices as applied to the analysis and evaluation of school programs, policies and operational needs.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong public speaking skills.
  • Knowledge of effective instructional strategies for students with varied abilities.
  • Knowledge of pertinent Federal, State, and Local laws, policies, rules and regulations as they relate to school administration.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • Knowledge of MTSS and PBIS.
