Actalent Mechanical Designer in Herndon, Virginia
Description:
We are seeking a Mechanical Designer to assist with 2D and 3D drawings for a new renewable energy battery management system. These battery management systems play a key role in capturing energy from renewable resources like water, wind, and solar.
Day to Day:
Create 2D and 3D drawings for enclosures for BMSs
Work with Engineering Leadership and Customer directly to perform custom in the moment designs
Be involved in Validation and Verification of metal enclosures with a high concentration in welding quality

Additional Skills & Qualifications:
Required Experience:
5+ Years of experience with mechanical design using CREO
Must know how to perform Weld and Fabrication Callouts (Modelling of parts and assemblies, Sheet metal & fabrication, Build-to-print drawings, Weld call-outs including ISO 2553, ISO 13920-BF (tolerances), ISO 5817-C (weld class), Parts lists and Modelling multiple assembly configurations/variations)
Experience with Windchill
Ability to travel off-site to vendor sites and Wartsila ESO headquarters Herndon, VA, approximately 1/month at most.
Preferred Experience:
Familiar with wiring, harnesses, and ability to read electrical schematics
Hands-on design experience- built the parts he/she designed.
Outdoor enclosures, skids, or preferably shipping containers ISO 668.
Understanding of structural shapes and materials availability- metric sizes, coatings, material specs.
Familiar with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) or ISO container structural specifications like ISO 1496
Ability to read/speak Mandarin to interpret Chinese drawings.
