Hours Available for the Month of August

GENERAL FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Camp Director the Camp EMT/Nurse is responsible for carrying out all first aid and supervision of medications authorized by the camp medical manual. The position is responsible for demonstrating YMCA leadership competencies to ensure the mission, purpose, image and core values of the YMCA of Greater Rochester are conveyed.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide medical services to both campers and staff, following standards and guidelines presented by the YMCA, its insurance company, the New York State Department of Health and the American Camping Association.

• Make arrangements for medical treatment of campers and staff by a doctor or hospital if needed.

• Keep the EMT room clean, including sweeping, mopping and changing linens, etc.

• Maintain complete records and reports required by the YMCA, it’s insurance company, the New York State Department of Health and the American Camp Association.

• Provide First Aid kits for program areas, and all offsite camp trips.

• Provide training to staff to assure their ability to deal with health needs of the campers in their care.

• Attend all required meetings and training.

• All other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

• Must be at least 21 years of age and possess a high school diploma or GED.

• Must be a qualified EMT, LPN or RN with current CPR/AED, First Aid, and Medication Administration certifications.

• The candidate must be highly organized, professional, enthusiastic self-starter with strong, communication skills.

• Must be able to work independently, as well as collaboratively with staff.

• Have expressed desire to work with children.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be able to stand or sit for the duration of the shift.

• Must be able to bend and stoop occasionally.

• Ability to visibly observe children.

• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and transport equipment from one location to another.

• Ability to communicate with parents and children effectively.

• Ability to hear distress signals even when distracted by noise and activity.

• Ability to work in a variety of environments, specifically those subject to extreme heat and humidity.
