Job Title

Director, R&D Program Management Smart Parenting and Healthy Feeding

In this role, you have the opportunity to

Join one of our key growth areas as the Mother & Child Care and Women’s Health Business, known with the brand Philips Avent. You will be a leading contributor to shaping the future of Smart Parenting and Healthy Feeding Solutions, which encompasses a wide portfolio of connected and non-connected propositions for the care of parents sleep reassurance and feeding journey. In this role, you combine technical expertise, strategic insights, and business acumen to drive the category toward further growth through meaningful and breakthrough innovation.

You coordinate and oversee a complex set of ever-developing projects within R&D, ranging from New Product Introductions and also look after the lifecycle management programs to secure business growth, high quality, and competitive portfolio. You are responsible for managing the Innovation & Development budget for the assigned category.

You are responsible for

  • Formulates the overall program/project plan for Smart Parenting and Healthy Feeding Solutions portfolios, in consultation with Marketing, Operations, and other parties.

  • Defines projects and their goals, organizes the resources to be used (time, budget, and information), specifies quality standards, and ensures proper execution of the project/program plan.

  • Defines the project/program risk and directions, communicates proactively on these, and develops scenarios to mitigate these risks.

  • Provides management and stakeholders with regular project/program performance status, variances to plan, and identification of corrective actions. Ultimately, be the accountable agent for Smart Parenting and Healthy Feeding R&D programs' success to be delivered On Scope, On Time, and On Value.

  • Provide feedback on Smart Parenting and Healthy Feeding allocated employees’ performance to the employees' hierarchical superior for the appraisal, and conduct evaluation at the end of the projects.

  • Ensures effective transfer/archiving of the project/program results and the associated intellectual capital.

  • Keeps up to date with technical basics and new technology, in order to optimize the goals of each project and maximize the synergy between the projects.

  • In line with the company's quality system, you will implement best practices for design control, keep up to date, and revise quality procedures to communicate and deliver projects.

  • Managing, in combination with the various Group Leaders, the department's capabilities; developing and maintaining a long-term view of the required competencies and knowledge to introduce new technology; ensuring that there are adequate resources and tools at the proper time; and maintaining and improving the department's knowledge and expertise.

  • Ensuring appropriate personnel management practices regarding recruitment and selection, adequate staffing, remuneration, performance appraisals, training, and talent development and career planning.

  • As part member of R&D Leadership Team, actively contribute to engagement activities across own team and innovation team at large.

You are part of the core leadership team at MCCWH R&D.

You work with all Functions and the other Program Managers to ensure program demands and resourcing availability are managed on an integral R&D level.

You are in a matrix organization as a single contributor, reporting to the Head of R&D MCCWH.

You will work with a team of highly motivated people in Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Eindhoven (The Netherlands), with the primary office in Hong Kong.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience

  • University Education in Electronics, Software, Mechatronics, Biomechanics, or Physics.

  • Established business acumen and a strong bias for action.

  • At least 10 years of experience in various new product development, project/program management, and research and development leadership roles, preferably in a multinational corporation environment.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and change management skills.

  • Proven experience in developing consumer electronics-related products from concept development to market launch with key involvement in the industrialization phase. A strong plus is for candidates with experience in the medical device industry (FDA and/or EU-MDR regulated devices) and FMCG as well.

  • Strong communicator and relationship-builder within a multidisciplinary, multicultural, and geographic environment with a proven track record for developing high-trust relationships, including during times of escalations. You are able to communicate from a small squad team level up to the General Management level and have an open, flexible attitude that makes you approachable.

  • Demonstrated experience in shaping, leading, and influencing high-performance development teams in a global, multi-location organization to make things happen.

  • Proven thought leadership in shaping program direction into transformational areas like digital and data-enabled propositions.

  • Preferably, experience with Lean/ Agile development.

  • Able to navigate and manage organizational complexity and drive efficiency and effectiveness, being a thought leader.
