Role: R&D Senior Member of Technical Staff, Product Development

Location: Houston, TX (hybrid)

AVEVA Simulation & Learning team develops engineering solutions for our customers through our simulation product offerings that target the chemical, energy, sustainability, and oil & gas industries. AVEVA Dynamic Simulation Group is responsible for the worldwide delivery and support of Operator Training Simulators for Refineries and Chemical Plants. The primary software product is AVEVA Dynamic Simulation that is used to model various process equipment and train operators in plant operation.

The R&D Senior Member of Technical Staff, Product Development position is in the R&D department. The developer will be responsible for developing and maintaining AVEVA Dynamic Simulation software that can be used to deliver operator training simulator solutions to our customers. AVEVA Dynamic Simulation software delivers first principles based, thermodynamics based, rigorous process simulation models along with a user-friendly GUI and a scalable server infrastructure. Expertise in developing such complex engineering software (process simulation models as well as infrastructure) is required. Experience with delivering operator training simulator solutions is highly desirable.

The developer will work as part of a larger development team and follow the agile development process. The work will involve understanding the model requirements, performing necessary research and literature search to develop functional specifications, doing necessary design activities, and then coding the features.

This position will involve close collaboration with other developers, QA testers, product manager and end-users. It may also involve mentoring junior team members.

As a senior member, the developer is expected to take ownership, be self-driven, be innovative and deliver a high-quality product in a timely manner.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with development team and stakeholders to design, build, implement, and support various process simulation models as well as GUI and infrastructure features using AVEVA’s agile development process.

  • Follow coding standards and best practices to develop secure and high quality (First Time Right) software.

  • Work with QA team and stakeholders to ensure that the software meets the requirements, is user friendly, and is well tested.

  • Create necessary user documentation.

  • Highlight and champion product as well as process improvements.

Qualifications

  • BS/MS/PhD in Chemical, Mechanical, Petroleum or other Engineering disciplines with relevant simulation model development experience.

  • 5-10 years of experience in simulation software development for oil & gas process industries.

  • Strong numerical methods / applied mathematics skills enabling the candidate to develop performant simulation models.

  • Good coding skills, in one or more of C++, Java or C#.

  • Desired: Experience with delivering operator training simulators.

  • Desired: Experience with Agile Software Development

Salary Range:

$112,800.00 - $188,200.00

This pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation that the position offers, and final compensation can vary within the range depending on work location, job experience, skills, and relevant educational attainment and/or training.
