Position Description Summary :

APT Research is hiring a System Safety Engineer to provide safety support for a new missile system integration program. The successful candidate will apply engineering principles to analyze and recommend design features that meet safety criteria in system design to control or eliminate hazards. The role includes active participation in the design of products/systems, associated support equipment and facilities.

The tasks include:

  • Reviewing hardware designs to ensure they meet the Safety requirements for the program.

  • Developing safety documents to support customer and test/operational range requirements.

  • Performing audits of operational areas and reporting on the effectiveness of system safety program.

  • Evaluating the interrelationship of system safety requirements and other aspects of concept design .

  • Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems.

  • Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal.

  • Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.

  • Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

    Required Experience :

  • A minimum of 3 years of related experience with a Bachelor's Degree, or 1 year with a Master's Degree in a science, engineering, applied mathematics, computer science, or closely related technical discipline.

  • Experience working with Test Range Requirements (91-710, RCC, etc.).

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • The candidate must have Electrical / Mechanic Engineering Design , System Integration , or Missile/Aircraft operational/maintenance experience.

  • U.S. Citizenship

    Security Clearance Requirement:

  • Active DoD Secret clearance obtained within the last 6 years

    Preferred Experience:

  • Safety engineering experience

  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-882E

  • Electrical and/or mechanic engineering experience

  • Software engineering experience

  • Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) experience

  • Experience with C/C++, Java, object-oriented design, or similar experience

  • Launch vehicle or weapon experience

  • Active Top Secret clearance with investigation in the last 6 years is preferred

  • Requires sitting for extended periods of time at a workstation / desk

  • Ability to lift >15 lbs.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgement

  • Work attire must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk / hazard to the employee or others
