General Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in business, management, finance, accounting, marketing, counseling or a related field. Two years’ experience preferred in financial aid, higher education, financial services, financial literacy education, financial, school, or counseling, or a related field. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.

Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:

Serves in the College of Osteopathic Medicine as a Financial Aid Counselor to SHSU - COM prospective and current students and assists with designing and executing programming and presentations related to personal finance.

Primary Responsibilities (Staff Positions Only):

Reports to the COM – Assistant Director of Financial Aid. Works closely with SHSU Financial Aid & Scholarships office. Collaborates with COM and Enrollment Services leadership, staff, faculty, and other SHSU campus departments for a seamless student experience. Assists with onboarding processes and new staff training. Provides comprehensive financial aid counseling to SHSU COM students and families. Helps students find financial assistance options from SHSU and external programs. Counsels students on sensitive financial aid issues, including eligibility and Satisfactory Progress. Evaluates and processes financial aid applications, verifying information and determining eligibility. Audits student awards and makes necessary revisions. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and institutional financial aid regulations and policies. Maintains accurate records of student interactions and financial aid decisions. Provides financial wellness counseling to SHSU COM students. Develops, markets, and presents financial aid and financial wellness information at recruitment and educational events. Assists with various departmental tasks and events as directed. Performs other assigned duties.
