Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Locksmith to work in our Physical Security Systems department. Our team works a 9-80 schedule located across our sitewide facilities with every other Friday off.

You will perform professional installation, corrective maintenance and preventative maintenance on a variety of complex locking systems and equipment. You will report directly to the manager of the Physical Security Systems department.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Perform routine work on all major lock types including cylindrical, mortise, panic exit devices, deadbolts, and safe combination locks.
  • Independently install and repair mechanical and electronic locks. Install and repair pin cores and create keys from code duplication and impression methods.
  • Use proper terminology, product identification, troubleshooting, manipulation, penetration, and repair of safes and vault doors.
  • Perform combination changes on high security safes and vault locks. Must have working knowledge of master keying and key bitting arrays.
  • Respond to overtime and call-out requests as dictated by program and operational needs.
  • Follow INL maintenance work control process, security systems work control, and relevant work documentation.
  • Perform work across all INL facilities.

*Minimum Requirements: *

  • High school diploma or equivalent and 9 years of relevant experience including using locksmith tools and equipment.
  • Journeyman-level knowledge of locks and theory of locking devices is required.
  • Must have basic knowledge of mechanical and electronic safe locks.
  • Experience using the proper terminology of Total Position Progression and the Rotating Constant Method master keying.
  • Experience with single-step and two-step progression master keying and developing a total progression split pin master key system using the proper key symbols.
  • Experience working with electronics and electronic locking systems required to work with security doors, vault doors, and safes.
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining positive and cooperative customer relations.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

  • Salary: $40.92/hr (Rate can vary based upon individual work location, clearances, and qualifications. Rates are accurate for current posting and subject to change These are bargaining unit positions.)
