Job Title: Maintenance Mechanic

Job Description

This position is responsible for setting up molds and cycling them into specifications, maintaining all operations in a safe and efficient manner, and ensuring acceptable quality and production requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Set up molds and cycle into specifications.

  • Understand various materials, mixing materials, automatic color blenders, and cycles.

  • Explain why different materials require different cycles.

  • Identify and distinguish various defects and dimensions.

  • Possess knowledge of hydraulic systems and electrical systems of machines.

  • Troubleshoot minor problems and make adjustments to get machines into specification.

  • Properly shut down and start up machines.

  • Train and assist other technicians in performing work.

  • Maintain good housekeeping in work area.

  • Assist other job classifications and perform assigned work.

  • Assist in the training of other maintenance, production, and other personnel in areas of expertise.

  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Documentation Practices (GDP).

  • Monitor assigned line's operation while complying with safety, quality, production, and housekeeping standards.

  • Apply knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic theory and procedures in maintenance and repair of extrusion, auxiliary, and support equipment.

  • Analyze, set-up, and maintain equipment for safe and continuous operation.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to read electrical schematics and identify symbols and control circuits.

  • Ability to understand and troubleshoot PLC programs and logic.

  • Competence in troubleshooting electrical circuits.

  • Capability to work on the installation of equipment, change motors, install relays and starters, and install control circuits.

  • Ability to read hydraulic schematics and identify symbols and control circuits.

  • Competence in troubleshooting hydraulic circuits.

  • Capability to work on equipment to repair, change, or upgrade the status of equipment.

  • Perform maintenance on all types of equipment represented in the plant with a reasonable degree of skill and competency.

  • Skill in refrigeration, drying, conveying, fluid pumps, blowing and vacuum pumps, pneumatic circuits, and welding/fabrication.

  • Troubleshooting, blow mold, hydraulics, pneumatics, maintenance repair, electrical, mechanical, preventive maintenance, blow molding or plastics.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred, or 5+ years' experience in a Maintenance role.

  • Some post-secondary education preferred (i.e., technical or vocational education).

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.

  • Basic math, computer, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to read schematics and blueprints.

  • Demonstrated maintenance and troubleshooting skills involving mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, as well as systems using electric motors and sensors for operational functions.

Work Environment

This is a flexible packaging company that services various industries around the world. This location handles all plastic extrusion for various foods and consumer products. The main product line includes shampoo, lotion, and cleaning solution bottles of various sizes and colors. The facility is 90,000 sq feet, housing 15 total extrusion lines and 2 labeling lines. The machines are primarily extrusion and mostly mechanical/hydraulic/pneumatic driven. Employees are expected to follow company policies and procedures, and the dress code is typically casual but safety-oriented.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Itasca, Illinois.
