This is a job for a Application Engineer I - Protection position with a company located in Jackson, MS.

Job Summary: Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeks an Application Engineer that is looking to work in a fast-paced and challenging position with continuous opportunities to grow and learn. In this position you will help SEL customers apply SEL technology and solutions, troubleshoot, and teach. 

Duties: Provide technical leadership and mentoring for SEL Application Engineers in power system protection and control. Help customers apply and troubleshoot SEL products through visits, demonstrations, training courses and telephone contact. Develop, test, and document solutions to complex power system protection, control, and metering challenges for an evolving power grid using SEL products and solutions. Contribute to new product specifications and product enhancements. Participate and present at SEL seminars, industry technical meetings, and conferences. Teach and develop course materials for SEL University. Contribute to white papers, application guides, industry journals, and/or technical papers through authorship and review. Model and teach SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World-Class Manufacturing principles. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: You have a Professional Engineer license and/or Senior IEEE membership for US/CAN region. You have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent engineering degree). You have 10+ years of experience in power systems and industry practice. You have the ability to write and speak English coherently.

Desired Qualifications: Relevant work experience and knowledge of utility and/or industrial power systems with an emphasis on protection, control, and operations. Familiarity with IEEE, IEC, and NERC standards that govern and guide power system protection, control, and metering methods. Specific field experience with setting, testing, and/or commissioning of protective relays and meters in multiple of the following focus areas: Transmission Line Protection. Transformer Protection. Capacitor Bank Protection. Bus Protection. Distribution Feeder Protection. Motor Protection. Revenue Metering. Power Quality. Generator Protection. Ability to build technical support relationships with internal and external customers. Ability to teach our customers to succeed independently.

Additional Info: Normal working hours for this position are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Up to 40% of normal working hours can be performed from home depending on applicant experience and location. Travel to customer sites, conferences, training classes, etc. may comprise 25%-33% of normal working days.

Pay Range Data: Application Engineer II $80,000 - $130,000. Application Engineer III 92,000 - $150,000. Senior Application Engineer $105,000 - $175,000 Our salary ranges are determined by job, responsibility, and location. We base our starting pay offer and title on location and job-related factors such as candidate experience, training, knowledge, and skills. We are open to reviewing additional candidates with more or less experience and the salary range may differ if filled at a different level.
