Responsibilities

The Department of Radiation Oncology at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, is seeking a radiation oncologist to expand our growing team, help support our current practice and aid in preparation for the first in the nation Carbon-Ion Therapy Center.

The Radiation Oncologist will be expected to utilize all radiation modalities including IMRT, brachytherapy and SBRT while working with a multi-disciplinary team managing patients with all types of malignancies. Candidates should have exceptional clinical competency and a strong interest in clinical research. Experience in proton therapy is encouraged but not required. Experience and interest in clinical trial research preferable.

Proudly part of the #1 hospital in Florida (U.S. News & World Report, 2022-2023), the Department of Radiation Oncology in Jacksonville is a leading center for excellence in patient care, innovation and education. Current equipment in the Department includes Varian TrueBeam linacs, a Gamma Knife ICON, Mobetron, GE CT simulator with wide bore and 4D capability, a Elekta Flexitron HDR remote after loader, Eclipse and ARIA. Treatment procedures include all conventional radiation therapy plus specialty RT modalities that include IORT, TBI, TSET, HDR, SRS, SBRT, BH, and LDR eye plaques. In addition, construction will start in 2022 of an integrated oncology facility that will include the first Carbon Therapy system in North America, a 2-gantry proton facility, MR and CT simulator, and conventional linacs.

The Department currently has 12 physician faculty, 4 rad onc residents, 12 physicists, 4 APPs and will grow substantially in the next several years in preparation and deployment of the particle therapy center. The Department has a seasoned and cohesive team actively engaged in support of subspecialty clinical practice, education and research in radiation oncology.

Mayo Clinic Cancer Center is a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer center – the only one with three geographic sites – in Phoenix/Scottsdale, Ariz.; Jacksonville, Fla.; and Rochester, Minn. The Cancer Center receives over $100 million in competitive peer-review grants annually, including the NCI's highly sought Specialized Programs of Research Excellence (SPORE) grants.
